A Message from the Caf

Students wanting to use their mobile phones at the caf are only permitted to do so before school, as we have a mobile phone policiy that states students cannot use their phones in school time.

If your child wishes to have a lunch order they will either have to bring their bank card or cash, or put in a lunch order before school.

Scholastic Book Fair

Our first ever Scholastic Book Fair has come to a finish, and we would like to thank our incredible school community for their support with this event.  Over the course of the book fair we sold just over $5100 worth of books!!  WOW!!  This has earned the school $1700 worth of books and literacy resources for our students. Thankyou to all our families for getting behind this event and supporting the learning of our students.

We have placed our re-orders for those items we sold out of, so if your child is waiting on an order, we hope to have them here within the next 7 – 10 days.

School is better when your child is there

 Why it’s important

We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.

If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school.

There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.

Days missed= years lost

1 day per fortnight= they miss 4 weeks per year =  and over 1 year of their schooling life

1 day per week = they miss 8 weeks per year = and over 2.5 years of their schooling life

Top attendance tips for parents

  • Merbein P10 wants to work in partnership with parents – act early if you have any concerns by contacting your child’s school and asking for advice and support
  • Remember that every day counts
  • There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes and their social connectedness
  • Talk positively about school and the importance of attending every day
  • Open and prompt communication with the school about all absences is a good idea
  • Avoid making routine medical and dental appointments during the school day or planning family holidays during the term
  • Seek help from your school if you are concerned about your child’s attendance and wellbeing. The school wants to work in partnership with parents to support student attendance and wellbeing.

Doctor's in Schools

Any Secondary student that wishes to make an appointment with the doctor can do so by coming into the main office or call 50 252 501

Flu Vaccinations - Doctor's in Schools

To help you stay well this winter, flu vaccinations can be purchased and administered in the Doctors in Schools Clinic, for Secondary Students, for $15.00 (cash only, to be paid to nurse on arrival. Please have correct money)

Please book appointments through the school office.

Free flu vaccinations are available for eligible priority groups.

These priority groups include:

  • children aged 6 months to 5 years
  • people aged 65 years old and over
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
  • pregnant women – at any stage of pregnancy
  • people aged 6 months and older with medical conditions putting them at increased risk of severe flu and its complications.

Children and adolescents need special protection from the flu, especially babies and toddlers. The flu vaccine is just as important as other routine childhood vaccines and will protect them against the most common strains of the flu.
