Principal's Report

Dear families and friends of MPW,

It was great to see many of our mums and special people able to attend our assembly and open classrooms last Monday.  I hope you enjoyed coming in to the classroom. Congratulations to Phoebe in Year 1, who won our Mother’s Day raffle.

Congratulations to our Cross Country team who represented the school at the District Championship yesterday. We have several students who qualified for the Division Championships next week and Moonee Ponds West finished second overall. As always, we encourage you to give your best effort and be proud of your achievements at any level. Thanks to Bree and the staff and parents who supported our students and the running of the day.

Well done to our MVIMP students who performed yesterday at assembly. This supports our younger students in developing the confidence to perform in front of a large audience, and to celebrate the students achievements in learning their instrument. We plan to have our other music groupings present at upcoming assemblies this term.

Education Support Personnel Day

On May 16th, we celebrated Education Support Personnel (ESP) Day. This special day is dedicated to recognising the incredible work and contributions of our support staff, who play a vital role in our school’s success. Education Support staff including classroom/student support, the administrative team and technicians and maintenance ensures that our school runs smoothly and provides a safe and supportive environment for our students. Let's take a moment to thank these wonderful individuals for their hard work and dedication.

Annual General Meeting and Annual Report

On 27th May at 5:30pm in the staffroom, we will be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) prior to our scheduled School Council Meeting. The AGM provides the opportunity for the school to present the Annual Report for 2023 to the community, sharing highlights, areas of focus and achievements for the 2023 school year.

The meeting is open for all school community members to attend.

After this meeting, the Annual Report document will be shared on the School’s Website.

Upcoming Student Free Day and Public Holiday this term

A reminder that next week, Monday 27th May is the Common Teacher Professional Practice Day, this is a student free day. This day is to recognise and support teacher workload. Teachers will be onsite working on their assessments, planning and reporting obligations. Camp Australia will be operating for those requiring their services.

The school will be closed on Monday 10th June for the King’s Birthday Public Holiday.

Attitudes to School Survey

The Attitudes to School Survey for students in Years 4/5/6 is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of their school. Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, teacher and peer relationships, bullying and general life. Our school then unpacks the survey results to explore opportunities to improve your child's experience at school. Survey responses are anonymous. The survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time. This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted in the coming weeks prior to Friday 14th June 2024.

Families of students in Years 4-6 have received further information about the Attitudes to School Survey via Compass today.

2025 Foundation Enrolments

Applications for Foundation enrolments for 2025 are open. The new statewide process continues this year, with specific timelines where applications close on 29th July.

For families at MPW that will be having siblings join the school in 2025, please ensure that you collect your enrolment form at the office.

You can find information and resources about the new timeline, including factsheets, at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep)

Student Attendance

A standing item in my report will be on Student Attendance, as this is a continual focus for our network and region.

Whilst most of our student absences are for illness or family holidays, we will be tracking attendance more closely this year. We are particularly interested in ensuring there are no unexplained absences for students. This is regularly followed up by our administration staff.

Over the coming weeks, we will continue following up with families who have large numbers of non-attendance for the first half of the year.

Regards,

Jarrod Sutton
