☘️ You are invited to our St Patrick's Day Lunch 

TUESDAY 17 MARCH - SPC OCA PAVILION - 12 NOON START

Have you got your tickets to our St Patrick's Day lunch? Join us on Tuesday, 17 March and help us celebrate one of our favourite days on the College calendar. 

This year's event will coincide with our Class of 1966 60-Year Reunion and Class of 1976 50-year Reunion.

We will be welcoming barrister John Larkins (SPC 1961-67) as guest speaker.

Tickets cost $40 per person and include a two-course meal, great company and a relaxed day out. All members of our community are warmly invited to attend.

🍻 Class of 1966 ready to reunite 60 years on

We are excited to be welcoming back the Class of 1966 this year to celebrate their 60-Year Reunion. 

Looking back, here are some events happening around the world 60 years ago - 

  • It's the height of the Vietnam War
  • There was a major space race milestone with first lunar landing by Luna 9
  • The Beatles release Revolver & Star Trek debuts on NBC
  • The first ATM is introduced
  • Holden in Australia becomes the first manufacturer to install seat belts as standard
  • St Kilda wins the 1966 VFL Grand final in nail-biter over Collingwood by 1 point

 

And at SPC, it's an equally busy year in 1966 -

  • The W.T. O'Malley Wing is officially opened; Br W.T (Bill) O'Malley also celebrates his golden jubilee
  • Damian Thrum is named College Captain
  • Brian Pola wins the Purton Oratory
  • SPC First XVIII Football side named Premiers & Champions yet again
  • SPC Basketball joins BPS competition
  • Treacy captain Paul Tatireta is winner of Athletics' Open age group
  • SPC has four principals in one year - Br J.L. Kelty; Br V.I. Murphy; Br R.S. Stewart; Br P.B. Murphy
  • Damian Thrum (Humanities) & Graeme McKinnon (Science) are named duxes

 

We would love to see as many who graduated, or were due to graduate in 1966, to enjoy the opportunity to catch up once again at our St Patrick's Day Lunch on Tuesday 17 March.

Reminiscing 50 years on for Class of 1976

We are also excited to be welcoming back the Class of 1976 for their 50-Year Reunion. 

A lot can happen in half a century!

 

Back in 1976, we marked the following - 

  • The birth of the Apple Computer Company, and "Microsoft" is registered
  • The start of supersonic travel as the Concorde takes to the skies
  • The first recorded outbreaks in the world of the Ebola virus
  • The film Rocky premieres, and "Silly Love Songs" by Wings tops the music charts
  • The Aboriginal Land Rights Act is passed in Australia
  • Malcolm Fraser is the Australian Prime Minister
  • 110,143 spectators watch Hawthorn win their third VFL Grand Final
  • Cigarette and tobacco advertising is banned on all Aussie TV & radio

 

And at SPC in 1976 - 

  • It's Old Boy Rev Br Peter Hudson's (SPC 1960-63) first year on staff as College Chaplain
  • Gerard Basham is College Captain
  • Simon Grigg wins the Purton Oratory, David FitzGerald wins the Sir Hugh Devine Prize, and Philip Leon, Peter Hill & Marcus Carey claim the W.T. Doyle Debating Prize
  • the $400,000 Kelty Centre officially opens, comprising staff rooms, spacious library and a specialised geography room
  • SPC 1st XI Hockey team named premiers and champions; 1st Tennis finishes second in BPS competition
  • SPC's First XI Cricket team were undefeated premiers of the 1976 BPS season
  • School cadets is temporarily replaced with the Form 3 Adventure Training Program following disbanding of the School Cadet Unit by government in 1975
