Chamber Strings Success at Queensland Youth Music Awards

Congratulations to our Chamber Strings ensemble on receiving second place at the Queensland Youth Music Awards. They performed exceptionally well on the night and were only narrowly placed behind St Peters Lutheran College Chamber Strings.

I was incredibly impressed by the students’ focus, professionalism, and beautifully expressive playing throughout their performance. Their hard work and dedication were clearly evident on stage.

Following the performance, the adjudicator spoke very highly of the ensemble, commenting on how musically and cohesively they performed. He also shared that he is looking forward to hearing them again at their upcoming Fanfare performances.

Well done to all students involved on this outstanding achievement!

Westside String Collective Workshops

Our Westside String Collective (WSC) workshops are fast approaching! WSC is a district strings program that brings together students from 10 different schools for a fantastic opportunity to rehearse and perform alongside other young musicians from across the region.

We are excited to have more than 30 Ironside students attending one of the three workshop ensembles:

  • Waltz – Monday 11th May
  • Scherzo – Tuesday and Wednesday  12, 13th May
  • Canzona – Thursday and Friday  14, 15th May

A reminder to parents that all workshops will be held at Fig Tree Pocket State School, and transport is not provided, so families will need to arrange travel to and from the venue.

We look forward to hearing about all the wonderful music-making that takes place during the week!

Fanfare Festival – Thursday 21 May

The Fanfare festival is almost here! On Thursday 21 May, our Senior Band, Senior Strings, Intermediate Strings, and Chamber Strings ensembles will travel to Wilston State School to take part in this exciting event.

Fanfare is a statewide Education Queensland festival that sees thousands of students participating in music performances across Queensland each year. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their hard work, hear other school ensembles perform, and celebrate music-making with students from across the state.

All participating students will be travelling by bus from school. Please remember to check that your performance uniform still fits and that students are prepared for the day.

We wish all ensembles the very best for their performances!

Strings Lessons and Ensembles – Next Week

A quick reminder that there will be no string lessons or ensembles next week while Ms Weekes is attending the Westside String Collective workshops.

With Fanfare taking place the following week, students are encouraged to keep practising their music at home—especially their orchestra repertoire—so they are well prepared for our big performance.

Thank you for your support and keep up the great work with your practice!
