We've been working hard to improve our handwriting at the moment. Making sure it's the correct size, shape and is formed the correct way. This makes it so much easier when it comes to writing all their amazing stories and ideas down as handwriting isn't something they have to 'think about'.
Building hand strength and dexterity also helps, like picking up macaroni with tongs, or you could try using chopsticks to eat dinner with sometimes too.
In class we started to use plastic pockets when practising. They have been really fun. Here are some pictures of our amazing skills, and some ideas below if you want practise at home too.
INSTANT WHITEBOARD AT HOME!
Using plastic sleeves to practice handwriting at home is a simple and effective method to improve writing skills. Start by placing a handwriting worksheet inside a clear plastic sleeve, which can be easily found at any office supply store. The benefit of using a plastic sleeve is that it allows your child to write on the worksheet with a dry-erase marker, and then erase it, giving them the opportunity to practice repeatedly without wasting paper. Encourage your child to trace over the letters or words on the worksheet, focusing on forming each letter correctly and keeping them within the lines. Once they've finished, they can simply wipe the sleeve clean and try again, reinforcing their learning through repetition. This approach makes handwriting practice both interactive and fun, while also being environmentally friendly. Additionally, you can rotate different worksheets into the sleeve, targeting specific letters, words, or even sentences that your child needs to work on. This versatile tool can be a great addition to your at-home learning routine, helping your child to steadily improve their handwriting skills.
