Book Week 2024 - "Reading is Magic"
The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) presents annual awards to Australian books of literary merit, for outstanding contribution to Australian children’s literature.
The CBCA was founded in 1945, in a time when Australian children’s books were few, and Australian authors and illustrators were virtually unknown. The following year, in 1946, the Book of the Year Awards, an annual award to promote books of high literary and artistic quality, was established.
These awards are now the most influential and highly respected in Australia.
The CBCA's Book Week theme this year is "Reading is Magic" and we are celebrating on Friday 23rd August with a book-themed dress up day and parade. Come to school dressed as a character from your favourite book or maybe from one of this year's winning or short-listed books. You can click on the following link to see which books were shortlisted: https://cbca.org.au/shortlist-2024/ . We have copies of these in our library on display and available for teachers and students to borrow and read.
There will also be a lunchtime activity available in the library on Tuesday 20th August for any interested students. We are having a book scavenger hunt, where there will be certain types of books for students to find throughout the library and mark off their sheet with stickers.
Happy Book Week everyone, we hope you enjoy the opportuntiy to read together especially during this week by remembering your favourite stories and sharing with each other, or finding something new to read, which might just become your favourite!
