Student Support Group meetings next week

Dear parents and carers,

Next week is dedicated to completing Student Support Group meetings for all of our students.  By now you will have received a form to book an SSG appointment.  There are times available after school every day.  We also have a student-free day scheduled for Wednesday 21 February to allow for appointments during the school day.  The SSG is a partnership between schools, parents/carers, the student and relevant agencies.  The group works together to identify educational, health, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing needs of students with diverse learning needs.

The first SSG meeting of the year is a vital step in the design of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for every Naranga student.  The IEP outlines the educational goals for the student for the year.  There are SSG meetings to follow up on the plan at the end of each term.  You have the opportunity to share information about your child at the SSG which assists with identifying the supports and adjustments that need to be put in place for your child to achieve their goals.

School Council Nominations are now open

I am seeking nominations for parent and community positions on the 2024 School Council.   There are four positions available and nomination forms are available from the office.  Being a School Councillor is a great way to contribute to our school and you only need to commit to two meetings each term.  These meetings are on a Tuesday at 6pm.   If you'd like more information, please give me a call at school to discuss further.

Arrival at School

There is no supervision in the playground until 8:45am each day.  I've noticed a number of students on-site as early as 8:15am.  Please ensure that students are dropped off at 8:45am so that they are safely supervised until lessons begin at 9am.  If your child is an independent traveller, remind them not to arrive too early to school.

Mobile Phone Policy

The Department of Education Mobile Phone Policy states that mobile phones are not permitted during school hours.  At Naranga School, there is secure, lockable storage for student phones in every homeroom.  Students must hand phones in to the teacher in the morning and receive them back prior to dismissal.  When emergencies occur, parent and carers can contact their children by ringing the main office of school on 9788 2222.
