 Welcome

Wawa, Wominjika.

Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurrunguri and Woiwurrung people of the Kulin nation.  We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community.  We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us.  We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.

King’s Birthday & Pupil Free Day

An important reminder to all school families that Monday is a Public Holiday (King’s Birthday) and Tuesday is a Pupil Free Day when staff will be working on explicit and responsive teaching.

School will be closed to students on Monday and Tuesday.

Year 5 & 6 Maths Olympiad

Students in Years 5 & 6 will be participating in the Maths Olympiad next week.

The Maths Olympiad is an inter-school competition that has been specifically designed to stimulate and challenge high potential and high achieving students in Years 5 and 6. It provides an opportunity for students from around Australia and New Zealand to compete as part of a team while striving for individual excellence. The main aims of the competition are to:

  • Provide teachers with an ongoing, high quality and well recognised enrichment and extension opportunity for their high potential or gifted students.
  • Provide teachers with a means to evaluate and benchmark their students’ progress compared to thousands of other students competing in the competition.
  • Develop increased creativity and flexibility in problem solving and mathematical reasoning.
  • Stimulate students' enthusiasm for, and enjoyment of, mathematics.
  • Allow high achieving students to showcase their skills and abilities and be recognised for their efforts and achievement.

Cross Country

Next week, Old Orchard will have four students competing in the Region Cross Country Championships at Yarra Glen Racecourse. This event brings together very talented and committed athletes from across the Eastern Region and we wish Tom M, Wesley T, Ivy R, Kotomi L and Lily B the very best of luck in their endeavours.

Front Entrance Update

We appreciate the understanding and flexibility of our school community with the access to the school via the front entrance being unavailable. The remodelled and upgraded bathroom in the foyer is due to be completed by the end of next week, with the ramp completion due by the end of term.

Have a great extra long weekend!

Warm regards

Duncan
