Getting Ready To Learn
As part of our wellbeing program at Holy Cross each class begins the day with a Getting Ready to Learn routine. We pray, engage in a positive primer (which is something quick and fun to get us moving/thinking/smiling), reflect on our Ways of Working and finally we learn or practice a wellbeing strategy. In our senior classes the children take an active role in preparing aspects of the Getting Ready to Learn routine. They seek out meaningful prayers and reflections and also select positive primers to engage their peers. Here's a quick snapshot of our Year One children preparing for a day of learning!
Totems
Totems are an important aspect of the belief system of many indigenous Australians. A totem is a natural object, plant or animal that reflects their identity. They represent their individual role in the family clan, their responsibilities to the environment and their relationships with others and with creation.
The Year 1 children chose their own totem and wrote about protecting their totem by ensuring their habitats were looked after.
