Premiers' Reading Challenge
The 2026 Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is nearly finished, with the Challenge closing on Thursday 3 September.
There are just over two weeks left, so now is the time to finish those last few books and, importantly, make sure all books you have read are logged online.
To successfully complete the Challenge and receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier, students need to have:
- Foundation to Year 2: Read or experienced 30 books, including at least 20 books from the Challenge book list.
Years 3 to 6: Read 15 books, including at least 10 books from the Challenge book list.
Students received their Premiers’ Reading Challenge username and password back in March. If your child has misplaced these details and needs them replaced, please contact our Challenge Coordinator, Prue Robbins, at prudence.robbins@education.vic.gov.au.
We know many SKiPPS students have been doing some fantastic reading this year, so please take a few minutes to check your online record and make sure everything is up to date before 3 September.
Keep reading, SKiPPS!
Book Week Dress-Up Parade: Friday 28 August
A reminder that our Book Week Dress-Up Parade will be held next Friday, 28 August, at 9am. We can’t wait to see the colourful costumes and favourite book characters our students bring to life!
During the parade, we will also reveal the SKiPPS winner of the Best 2026 Children’s Picture Book, as voted by our students from this year’s CBCA selection.
Please see the Book Week article later in this newsletter for further information and costume inspiration.
Missing Jacket
A black Kathmandu puffer jacket was left on the gate near the garden shed last week and has since gone missing. If you have picked it up by mistake or know where it might be, please return it to the school office. Allison would be very grateful to have it back!
Save the Date: SKiPPS Parent Trivia Night 2026
Our famous SKiPPS Parent Trivia Night is back for 2026, and we can't wait to welcome everyone for another fantastic evening of fun, laughter and a little friendly competition!
Date: Saturday 10th October
Venue: St Kilda Life Saving Club
This year's theme is "Creatures of the Night", so start thinking about your costumes and table decorations. Whether you come as vampires, werewolves, witches, bats or something completely original, we'd love to see everyone embracing the spooky spirit of the night.
It's never too early to organise the babysitter, gather your team and lock the date into your calendar. More information about tickets, table bookings and the evening's activities will be shared soon, but for now, make sure you save the date!
Final Reminder: 2026 Gnocceria Fundraiser
Order Lasagne, Sauce and Gnocchi- the famous pasta sauce and lasagne that we have been serving for the lunch orders!
For every packet of gnocchi, jar of sauce and pizza base sold SKiPPS will get $2 and for each lasagne SKiPPS will receive $5
