What’s happening in 5/6?
Special Visitors
We had some very special visitors in our room this week…! Kindergarten came along to 5/6 to show us some of their work in Maths and English and they also read their readers to us. 5/6 were so delighted by their visit and enjoyed helping them with their work, thinking of ways to explain different concepts to them. The 5/6 students were also thoroughly impressed by how well Kindergarten read their readers! We are really looking forward to spending some more time together again soon. Please see our super-cute photos below.
History - ‘Visit us at Our House’
5/6 recently participated in a live zoom event entitled ‘Visit us at our House’, run by DART Learning and the Parliament of NSW. It is a fun and interactive program where students learn about the Westminster system and how democracy developed in Australia, as well as how the Parliament of NSW works and laws are made.
In this zoom we learned about:
- the development of democracy in the early colony of NSW
- the Westminster based bicameral system and the function of the Chambers
- the levels of government
- how laws are made
- the current state Member and their role in the NSW Parliament
- the role of the Serjeant-at-Arms and the Usher of the Black Rod
The students so thoroughly enjoyed this presentation and learned so much through the fun and engaging way the information was presented.
