Attendance

At Sandringham College, we value the strong commitment families make to support their child’s attendance every day. We understand that challenges can arise and are committed to working in partnership with families to support regular attendance so that every student can thrive.
Attending school each day means accessing the learning, friendships and opportunities that shape a young person’s future. Even small absences add up.
Missing one day per fortnight equates to around four weeks of lost learning each year.
Regular attendance supports students to keep up academically and socially, build positive relationships, develop important life skills and successfully complete their schooling.
Consistent attendance is strongly linked to long-term success, including better health and employment outcomes. It is also closely connected to student engagement. Early signs of disengagement may include frequent lateness, missed classes, social challenges, transition difficulties, wellbeing concerns or ongoing health issues. Addressing these early, in partnership with families, is key to preventing longer-term patterns.
While we value family time, we strongly encourage families to avoid taking holidays during the school term. Extended absences can disrupt learning, as key concepts and classroom experiences are difficult to replicate, and catching up can place added pressure on students. Where possible, we ask that holidays be planned during designated school breaks.
At Sandringham College, we actively support attendance through early intervention, wellbeing support and close communication with families. We recognise that each student’s circumstances are unique and respond with care and flexibility. Regular attendance is a shared responsibility. We ask parents and carers to ensure their child attends daily, provide explanations for absences, communicate in advance where possible and keep the school informed of any ongoing concerns.
If your child is experiencing challenges with attendance, please reach out. By working together, we can ensure every student is present, engaged and supported to make the most of every school day.
