House Program 2026

Leigh Kenshole | House Program Leader

As we begin the second year of our Sandringham College House Program, we are excited to continue building a strong culture of belonging, connection and school pride across our community. The House System reflects who we are as a college and the values we uphold: Respect, Excellence, Creativity, Integrity and Community. It provides a structure where every student can feel connected, supported and inspired to contribute.

Belonging is not something that simply happens, it is something we actively build together. We see this when students cheer each other on, step forward to represent their House, and encourage others to get involved. These everyday actions are what strengthen our culture and create a positive and inclusive environment for all students.

In 2025, students competed in a range of events including Basketball, Athletics, Netball and the Sandibald Art Competition. The energy and enthusiasm were outstanding, but most importantly, students demonstrated genuine pride in representing their House and being part of something bigger than themselves. This sense of identity and connection continues to sit at the heart of our program.

In 2026, we are expanding the House Program to provide even greater opportunities for students to participate and succeed. Alongside our major sporting and arts events, we are introducing a broader range of academic and co-curricular competitions, including Debating, Chess Tournament, Sandy Chef, the Science Week Quiz, Book Week Competition and a Mathematics Competition. These additions ensure that every student, regardless of their interests can find a meaningful way to contribute and showcase their strengths.

Importantly, House points this year will be awarded not only for achievement, but also for participation and effort. Students will earn points for representing the college in productions and sport, as well as through our Green Post recognition system, which acknowledges positive behaviours aligned to our school values. This approach ensures that House success is built on consistent effort, respectful behaviour and active involvement, rather than being defined by a small number of events.

Each House continues to be led by a Student Captain and a Staff Leader, who play a vital role in building House spirit, organising events and strengthening communication. They are supported by a broader leadership structure that ensures the program remains student-driven and connected across all year levels.

House Basketball Heats Up Across the College!

What a fantastic few weeks of House Basketball it has been across both campuses! Students from Year 7 through to Year 12 have taken to the courts with tremendous energy and school spirit, and the competition has been nothing short of thrilling.

Bluff Road – Year 7 & 8 Boys

Kicking things off at Bluff Road on Wednesday 18th March, our Year 7 and 8 boys delivered some exciting lunchtime basketball. Hollands (Yellow) edged out Car (Blue) in a tight opener, 4–2, before Williamson (Red) produced a dominant display, defeating Coppersmith (Green) 6–0. The finals were equally compelling — Williamson (Red) claimed top honours with a 4–0 win in the Grand Final, while Coppersmith (Green) narrowly held off the challenge in the 3rd vs 4th place match, 6–5, in what was the closest game of the day.

Holloway Road – Year 9 to 12

Over at Holloway Road, the competition across Years 9–12 was intense across multiple sessions in Week 9. Hollands (Yellow) were in red-hot form in the Year 9 & 10 Boys division, cruising past Car (Blue) 7–1 before eventually claiming the division championship 4–2 in the Grand Final. Coppersmith (Green) showed great resilience, advancing from a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Williamson (Red). In the Year 9 & 10 Girls, Hollands (Yellow) were equally dominant, winning their Grand Final 11–7 in a high-scoring affair.

The Year 11 & 12 Boys competition Williamson (Red) were on fire, winning 19–4 against Coppersmith (Green) before holding on in a hard-fought Grand Final, 14–10. Meanwhile, the Year 11 & 12 Girls saw Williamson (Red) claim their championship 4–2, with Car (Blue) putting in a spirited performance throughout.

A Special Thank You to Our Student Leaders

None of this would have been possible without the tireless dedication of our House Leaders, who have organised, coordinated, and cheered on their houses with such enthusiasm. A very special shoutout goes to our House Captains Jonty Litwinow (Williamson) and Addy Lees (Coppersmith), who went above and beyond by stepping up as referees at Bluff Road — giving their time and showing tremendous leadership and sportsmanship. Thank you also to Felix Ritchie (Carr) and Stella Robertson (Hollands) who helped organise teams and referee at Holloway Campus.

Recognising Our Staff House Leaders

A heartfelt thank you also goes to our dedicated staff House Leaders who have driven the spirit and organisation of each house throughout the competition — Scout Greenhalgh (Car/Blue), Ben Norton (Hollands/Yellow), Gabbi Mavridis (Williamson/Red), and Ben Anderson (Coppersmith/Green). Your enthusiasm and commitment to your houses has been amazing and has made this competition the success it is.

Thank You to Our Year Level Leaders

Equally deserving of recognition are the Year Level Leaders who gave up their lunchtimes to referee matches and ensure everything ran smoothly and fairly. A huge thank you to Mr Rolfe, Mr Christopoulos, Mr McInerney, and Mr Broomhall for their invaluable contribution. Their involvement made a real difference to the quality and atmosphere of the competition, and the students genuinely appreciated having them on the courts.

Congratulations to all students who participated — the effort, sportsmanship, and house pride on display have been wonderful to see. The House Shield race is well and truly on!
