STEM AWARDS

In Term 2, Stage 1 created a STEM project to be presented at the The Future EDU STEM Awards last week. The students collaborated to complete multiple experiments involving ‘helicopter test flights’. The variable was continuously modified in order for the students to identify how these changes affected the results.

Well done to Henley Tough, Tom Faris and Millie Conaty who represented St Francis Xavier's at the awards which were held at The Crossing Theatre on Thursday 12th October.  They presented their project and findings to a panel of judges. The students were given the opportunity to view the other projects on display at the awards as well as participate in different science based activities.

SCHOOL CHOIR

The St Francis Xavier’s School Choir is back!! Conducted by Miss Allingham and Miss Wheeler, the School Choir will be performing at various upcoming events this term. Rehearsal will be held at recess every Thursday in the KA classroom.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

STAGE 1 - SCIENCE INCURSION

Let’s talk about Science! Stage 1 were excited to participate in a Science Incursion last Wednesday presented by Ms Sophia McLean from Australian Earth Science Education. The students were engaged in fun activities which encouraged them to use their senses (look, see, touch) to collect data and make predictions.

  •  Each student was given a special white UV bead and observed how, when exposed to sunlight, it changed colour.
  • They also used diffraction glasses that broke down the light in the library to demonstrate the “rainbow effect" of colours.
  • Different soil types, textures and categories such as plastic, rock and glass were studied to learn about soil and geology.
