Principal's Report

I can't believe that today was our final day of Term 2, and what a great term it has been. I am very proud of all of our students and the achievements they have made in terms of work habits, their learning and personal growth.

Next term I have decided to take some long service leave for the whole of Term 3, this means I will return to start Term 4.

I know that the school will be in good hands during this time. Ms Louise Atkinson will be Acting Principal until my return.

Term 3 starts back on Monday 13th of July.

Year 5 Angler Kits

The Victorian Government is  actively encouraging primary school aged children to learn more about the art of fishing, marine life and the natural environment, by offering free Little Angler kits to students in Year 5.

The FREE kits provide a wonderful school holiday activity for children with their families and help ease the cost of living, providing a fun activity close to home.

Parents of Year 5 students can advise the school if they do not wish their child(ren) to participate for any reason whatsoever. We support parents in making decisions that align with their family values and beliefs.

The roll out of kits will occur in August 2026 so that all participating children will have a kit in time for the September school holidays. The kits will need to be collected from the office by a parent, we will send a Compass message to you next term when they are ready for collection.  Little Angler Kits Video.

In a bittersweet end of term, we say goodbye to Mrs Emma Grant for the next 12 months. Mrs Grant has been successful in obtaining an Acting Assistant Principal at a school closer to home. We know she will excel in this new role and we will miss her dearly.

To complete the Challenge, a student, or their teacher/parent will:

1. Access the Challenge book list

The Challenge book list has lots of books to choose from. Most of the books that students read during the Challenge should be taken from the list.

2. Read a certain number of books

During the Challenge, a student will read a certain number of books that are suitable for them. While the number of books can be varied for a student, the general guidance is:

· Prep to Year 2: Read a total of 30 books, with 20 or more of those books from the Challenge book list

· Year 3 to Year 6: Read a total of 15 books, with 10 or more of those books from the Challenge book list

3. Track books read

Each student has a dashboard to track the books they read for the Challenge. Once a student has read a book, they should mark it as finished on their reading list.

4. Have books verified

Once a student has completed the Challenge, books need to be verified by a teacher or parent/carer. Following the verification, students that have completed the Challenge will receive a Certificate of Completion in Term 4.

Regional Athletics

Congratulations to Nesta and Namo for competing at Regional Cross Country last week. Such a great achievement and well done to you both.

Run Club

What a successful Run Club we have had in Term 2. It was great seeing so many students turning up each Thursday to run laps around our school to earn points for their house. Over the term, we have completed 1,115 kms of running as a school! That would get us to Sydney!! Well done to everyone that participated and we look forward to Run Club in Term 3.

House Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday 23rd June we had our school House Athletics Carnival at Casey Fields track. We were very happy with the weather this year!! We had such a great day with so much participation, teamwork and sportsmanship, it was so great to see. Well done to all the students that had a go and gave it their best and well done to all the ribbon winners. The District team will be announced as soon as possible.

World Champ Visit

This week we were lucky enough to have Australian curler, Dean Hewitt, from the Victorian Institute of Sport visit us and share his journey. Students in Years 2-6 got to hear about how Dean started curling when he was 5, his covid rattled Olympic campaign and winning a gold medal at the World Championships. We all got a better understanding of how the sport of curling works and how much fitness and mental training is involved in competing at the highest level.

Marlee and Dua had a go at sweeping the ‘ice’ at full speed for 20 seconds, giving them an appreciation of how much work goes into this 20 second move. We all had a go at getting into lunge position to throw the curling stone and felt just how challenging it was to hold this position.

Dean spoke to the students about the importance of healthy eating in order to fuel your body correctly and how to adjust your mindset and work towards a challenging goal. Coming from Australia where there are only 200 curlers nationwide, Dean has often been the underdog in his sport and his achievements have come from a lot of hard work and determination.

We look forward to seeing how Dean performs at the World Championships in January and wish him all the best in his quest to make it to the next Winter Olympics in 2030!
