From the Principal

Dear Families,

Welcome Back to Term 2!

Psalm 1 begins with a searching question beneath its beautiful imagery: What shapes your joy? The psalm contrasts a life that delights in the Lord—rooted, nourished, and quietly fruitful—with a life driven by impulses that promise satisfaction but never quite deliver.

Our culture regularly asks us to delight elsewhere. Popular songs of our age, such as Ed Sheeran’s Bad Habits, reflect a familiar story: the pull of fleeting passions, the awareness that something isn’t good for us, and yet the repeated return to it. These songs resonate because they’re honest—but they also reveal how easily shortterm pleasure can become a destructive pattern.

Psalm 1 offers a better vision. Delight in the Lord is not about denying joy, but aboutchoosing a joy that lasts. It shapes character, steadies the heart, and leads to lifethat flourishes over time.

As parents and educators, this raises an important question for our children—and for ourselves: What do we delight in? And what kind of life is being formed by that delight?
