From the Principal

A Night to Remember – Beauty and the Beast Jr

What an incredibly proud Principal I was watching our students perform in Beauty and the Beast Jr and the Belle’s Bookshop showcase. To see them step onto the stage with such confidence, enthusiasm and pride was truly magnificent. Congratulations to every student involved and to the teachers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare them. Productions of this scale require commitment, persistence and teamwork, and our students certainly rose to the occasion.

A special thank you to our wonderfully talented and passionate Performing Arts teachers, Miss Nugent and Miss Marquis, who create this opportunity for our students every year. Giving students regular opportunities to perform means that, with each production, they build confidence, learn the routines and expectations of being on stage and, importantly, develop the belief that they can do it. By the time the next production comes around, they are not only ready, they’re excited. As the props are packed away and costumes returned, I have no doubt that Miss Nugent is already thinking about which musical to take to the stage next year. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with!

The Community We Create Together

“If you don’t work to create the culture you want, you never know what you might end up with.”

I think about this often when reflecting on our school. Coming out of the pandemic, it was important that we were deliberate about the type of school we wanted to be and, most importantly, that we found ways to bring people back together. We developed our wellbeing vision around creating a supported and inclusive environment where staff, students and parents feel a genuine sense of belonging, and I think we see the impact of that in so many moments every day. Visitors often comment that, despite being a large school, we have a lovely, connected community feel.

But that doesn’t happen by accident. It is created through the everyday actions of our community; Class Representatives welcoming new families and bringing people together, staff supporting one another and pitching in, parents volunteering their time, and students looking out for each other. It is the positive intent behind these seemingly small actions that continues to build the school community we want. Culture isn’t something we can simply say we have; it is something we create together, every single day. When I look around Murrumbeena Primary School, I feel incredibly proud of the community we have deliberately created and continue to build together.

Get Ready for Colour Blast!

The fun continues next term with our Social and Fundraising committee organising a Colour Blast: a colourful, active and very messy day that our students are sure to love! The event will raise funds towards the refit of our First aid room and STEM classroom both in need of attention. With the holidays coming up, we encourage families to spread the word and, when visiting relatives and friends, perhaps ask them to get behind our Colour Blast by making a donation. Every contribution, big or small, will help us reach our fundraising goal and the more support we receive, the more colourful the day will be! We can’t wait to see our students running, laughing and getting covered in colour while supporting something that will benefit our school for years to come.

Time to switch off

As the holidays approach, I encourage our students to switch off from devices and make time to play, create and connect. Get outdoors, explore nature, ride a bike or kick a ball; if you’re inside, put the screens away and get out the paper, pens and scissors and make something! Spend time with family and friends, enjoy a conversation and give young minds a chance to rest and recharge. Please also remember to reinforce road safety with children as they are out and about during the holidays.

I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful break and returns refreshed and ready for Term 4 on Monday 5 October.
