From the Principal

WELCOME BACK!
There has been a lovely buzz around MPS as our students have returned for Term 4! It’s been a pleasure welcoming everyone back and seeing our students reconnect with friends, settle into their routines and start the final term of the school year with such positive energy. We hope the break provided a chance for families to relax, recharge and enjoy some special time together.
SUNSMART REMINDER
With the warmer weather on its way, it’s time to make sure hats are back in school bags and ready for outdoor play. Students are required to wear a hat whenever they are outside. If a student arrives without one, they will need to remain in designated shaded areas during outdoor activities.
Teachers will remind students to apply sunscreen and put on their hats before heading outside, as students cannot return indoors once they are in the yard to collect forgotten items.
Our approved school hats must meet the following requirements:
- Broad-brimmed hats: a brim of at least 7.5 cm
- Bucket or surf-style hats: a deep crown with a brim of at least 6 cm
- Legionnaire hats: a flap covering the neck, with side protection
School hats are available from PSW on North Road, Ormond. Please ensure your child’s hat is clearly labelled with their name to help us reunite misplaced hats with their owners.
PLANNING FOR 2027 CLASSES
Although we have only just begun Term 4, preparations for the 2027 school year are already underway, including the important task of forming next year’s classes.
Class placement requires careful consideration of each student’s learning, social and emotional needs, alongside the overall balance and dynamics of each class. Our aim is to create positive learning environments where every child has the opportunity to feel connected, confident and supported.
Following the success of our Google Form process, we will use the same approach again. A Compass post will be shared next week with instructions on how to provide your child’s classmate preferences.
Before completing the form, we encourage you to talk with your child about the classmates they feel comfortable learning alongside and who help them to do their best. You will be invited to nominate three or four classmates, in no particular order, through the form. Please submit your responses by Friday 23 October 2026.
If you would like further information about how class placements are determined, our Class Placement Policy is available on the school website.
Thank you for your support and understanding as we work through this process. We appreciate the trust you place in us to make thoughtful decisions that support the learning and wellbeing of all our students.
CURRICULUM DAY
Our Curriculum Day will be held on Monday 2 November (the day before the Melbourne Cup).
The Curriculum day is a ‘pupil free day’ so there will not be any school attendance.
The teachers will be working together to moderate judgements against the achievement standards in readiness for end of year reporting. When determining the achievement standard, teachers use a range of information sets, including, but not limited to: participation in lessons, submitted student work and analysis of a range of assessments.
Theircare will be offering their service for students who need supervision on this day.
COLOUR BLAST – FRIDAY 16 OCTOBER
Get ready for an afternoon of colour, energy and plenty of fun! On Friday 16 October, our students will head to the oval for our Colour Blast fundraiser, tackling a series of inflatables as they race their way through the course and get blasted with colourful powder along the way.
Wearing a white T-shirt is a great way to capture the rainbow of colours! Students will participate in four groups, each enjoying a 30-minute session between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. Class teachers will send families a Compass message confirming their child’s allocated time.
We are currently well below our fundraising target for this event, so we encourage everyone to get involved and do their best to raise as much as possible. Every contribution helps us get closer to our goal, so please get behind this colourful community event and help make it a huge success!
