VCE Extension Studies on offer in 2027

Deakin University – Deakin Accelerate

Deakin Accelerate is a distinctive VCE higher education program that allows students to study two first-year university subjects during Year 12. Studying one subject per trimester, this selective program gives students a head-start into university studies and also provides a potential contribution to their all-important ATAR score. Besides the challenge of taking on a university subject, this subject may also count as part of the VCE and contribute towards the ATAR as the fifth or sixth subject. There are no tuition fees for Deakin Accelerate.

Federation University – Advance to University

Advance to University is an opportunity for Year 12 students to study first year university units as part of their VCE.  Successful completion of these units may contribute towards the ATAR, and students get credit towards their university degree. There are no fees for Advance to University.

University of Melbourne – Extension Program

The Extension Program is an opportunity for high achieving Year 12 students to study a university subject whilst at school which counts towards their ATAR, as well as experience university life. There are no fees for participation in the Extension Program.

Course Updates

Sport and Exercise Science/Food and Nutrition Double Degree

Now open for 2027, this four-year double degree combines exercise physiology and nutrition science and is designed for health/science-interested students.  The course includes 150+ placement hours, and also pathways to Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or Sport Analytics postgraduate studies.

Diploma of Engineering Technology 

La Trobe is introducing two streams within Civil and AI, providing pathway options into the Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours).Entry into this diploma is VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any Mathematics.Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL, and no ATAR is required.

Changes to Prerequisites into Paramedicine

Students considering studying the Bachelor of Paramedic Practice with Honours should note that several prerequisite subjects for this course have been removed.  From 2027, the prerequisite is: VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

The ANU Vice-Chancellor Scholars Program

The Australian National University (ANU) may offer a number of awards known as the ANU Vice-Chancellor Scholars Program. 

The objective of the award is to improve access, participation, retention and successful completion for domestic students from under-represented backgrounds by reducing financial barriers to studying at ANU. Find out more at ANU Vice-Chancellor Scholars Program.

They learn alongside Bachelor students attending the same classes, meet people who share their ambitions and experience all that student life has to offer. ANU currently has three diplomas commencing in 2027 that align to 11 Bachelor degrees.

VCE Science Exam Revision Events

Monash Science is excited to support students currently studying a range of VCE subjects through on-campus revision lectures in the upcoming September school holidays.These sessions have been designed to reinforce key competencies within Units 3 & 4 and will be delivered by qualified VCE teachers with extensive experience in the subject.

Bachelor of Engineering Course Update

The mathematics prerequisite for all Bachelor of Engineering degrees offered at Federation University has been updated to include General Mathematics, in addition to Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics.  This change aligns our entry requirements with those of other universities. 

This course includes the ATAR as part of its selection criteria. Applicants must have:

• Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any English, and
• Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in Mathematics: Mathematical Methods, or 
• Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in Mathematics: Specialist Mathematics, or 
• Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in Mathematics: General Mathematics. 

Alternative Entry Requirements for Teacher Qualifications

Students considering applying to enrol in an undergraduate teaching course in Victoria in 2027 are advised to pay careful attention to the entry requirements for each university.  Some will require the Casper (as mentioned above), others may accept the Casper or their own, whilst others may only require their own, and not the Casper.  The table below is to be used as a guide only, and students should refer to VTAC and the individual university websites for the most up-to-date information.

New Business Double Degrees

Deakin is introducing two new double degrees that sit alongside existing combinations such as Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Criminology/Bachelor of Business, giving students even more ways to combine their interests, build a distinctive skill set and shape a career that reflects how they want to work.

Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Communication

This double degree combines professional business capabilities with professional communication expertise, equipping graduates with a versatile skill set valued across industries.  Work integrated learning is a core part of the degree, with domestic and international internships and volunteer experiences that build meaningful professional networks, supported by research-active academics and Deakin Business School’s AACSB and EQUIS-accredited facilities, including the state-of-the-art Deakin Trading Room. 

Students can choose a communications major in advertising, public relations, journalism or digital and social media, then pair it with a business major in marketing management, human resource management, project management, entrepreneurship and innovation, business management or AI and business information systems.

Bachelor of Design/Bachelor of Business

This double degree brings creative and commercial thinking together, designed for students who want to develop ideas that are both meaningful and commercially sound.  Students build design expertise focused on understanding people, solving real problems and creating engaging solutions for audiences, alongside a solid grounding in business fundamentals. 

Students choose a double major across the degree: in design, from communication design or interactive and UX design; in business, from areas including business management, AI and business information systems, entrepreneurship and innovation, human resource management, marketing management and project management.  Core units, an employability sequence and electives round out this progressive double degree.

Diploma of Teacher Education Preparation

The Diploma of Teacher Education Preparation may be the right study choice for students with the motivation, capability and personal attributes to be a great teacher.

The Diploma of Teacher Education Preparation (Dip TEP) is an accredited AQF5 level qualification aimed at students who do not initially meet the minimum ATAR for teaching.  The course was developed as part of the Victorian Government’s Excellence in Teacher Education Reforms  to ensure that disadvantage and diverse educational experiences are not a barrier to capable and committed people who want to pursue a career in teaching.

Successful completion of the Dip TEP will ensure that students graduate with the prerequisite knowledge and skills to undertake a rigorous undergraduate teacher education course.  The Dip TEP supports students to meet the literacy and numeracy standards they will need in order to graduate with a teaching qualification and supports them to meet the demands of study at a higher education level.   The course introduces students to contemporary issues in education and to teaching as a profession, including practical school-based placement. 

The course is offered by a number of institutions, including ACU, RMIT, and VU.

Associate Degree of Applied Technologies

The Associate Degree of Applied Technologies is an engineering and digital technologies course designed to prepare students for the profession as a para-professional engineer or technologist in the context of Industry 4.0, as well as provide a pathway for graduates to articulate into a degree course.   

The course provides students with the core concepts in a range of engineering disciplines and equips them with the practical skills and in-depth knowledge to become a technical expert in sectors such as manufacturing, IT, engineering and more.

This two-year course provides an excellent pathway into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with credit for units already completed.

Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science/Master of Physiotherapy

Introduced by Swinburne in 2026, the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science is designed to articulate to the 2-year Master of Physiotherapy.  

For the first time, these two courses can be applied for through VTAC as a packaged option.  The VTAC Course code is:  3400214301.Students who attain an average mark of 70%+ higher in the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, are guaranteed direct entry into the Master of Physiotherapy.

Offered at the Peninsula Campus, the Bachelor of Business Administration is an opportunity to learn more about how different areas of business work together and how coordinating these functions can improve operations today and uncover new opportunities for tomorrow.

Master’s Accelerated Pathway

The Master's Accelerated Pathway allows you to complete a master’s degree with one additional year of full-time study. This pathway is designed for high-achieving students who have the drive to deepen their expertise, fast-track their studies and stand out in their career.  Monash Business School Master's Accelerated Pathway lets students complete both their bachelor's degree and a master's degree in just four years by enrolling in selected master’s degree units in the final year of a bachelor's degree. 

To be eligible, students must have:

• Completed at least 96 credit points of an eligible degree;
• Have achieved a high credit (65%) average; and
• Have four units (24 credit points) of their Free Elective Study available to complete 24 credit points of units from the master’s degree they wish to study.

Eligible degrees are –

• Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Economics

  and Bachelor of Actuarial Studies

Missing Prerequisites for Allied Health or Education?

ACU now offers free short courses in mathematics and human biology to help students build confidence and meet prerequisites for selected ACU courses.Courses include 20 hours of flexible self-paced learning and enrolments open 28 September 2026.  Students seeking entry for Semester 1, 2027 can complete a short course and sit an ACU entrance test on: Thursday, 3 December 2026. 

Students applying through the TAC main rounds should sit the test on 3 December 2026. There will be a January test date, but the results will only be considered in later Offer Rounds if there are still places in courses.  Completion of a short course and entrance test does not guarantee admission.  Students must still meet all other course entry requirements.

         Deakin Guaranteed ATAR

Guaranteed ATARs for 2027 Entry The Deakin Guaranteed ATAR provides access for more students, so you can secure a place in the course you want. Deakin is providing lower upfront guaranteed ATARs for eligible students from under-represented cohorts at Deakin. This may mean students who attend an under-represented school – see list hereOR live or study in a regional or remote home or school location OR are of Indigenous Australian descent . Applications will be made through VTAC later in the year.

Deakin Uni Ready

Deakin Uni is excited to introduce Deakin Uni Ready, a new fee-free government funded program designed to support prospective students into university study. TDeakin Uni Ready is a part-time yearlong program, delivered in 6-week intensive blocks fully online.  

It is part of the Australian Government’s Fee Free Uni Ready initiative.  

Upon completion, students must apply through the Deakin applicant portal for their chosen bachelor degree. There is no guaranteed entry, and students will apply through the standard admissions process.
