Worship Wednesday with Sean W Smith

Last Wednesday, students from Kindergarten through to Year 6, along with DCS staff members, a large number of parents, and younger siblings, gathered in the Jiloa Centre for an energetic and engaging performance by Sean W Smith. The morning was filled with Sean singing and performing his uplifting songs, encouraging students to showcase their dance moves and join in singing along. Sean also shared his journey as a Christian through his music and storytelling abilities.

Since last week, the community has shared positive feedback about Sean's performance, highlighting the joy and inspiration it brought to everyone present. Here are some reflections from our students.

I loved dancing and the Coca Cola song - Gabriel, Prep.

I have a CD of his music at home. My favourite song was the Coca cola song - Jesse, Prep.

I loved the Boom Boom - Imogen, Prep.

We loved all the songs and doing all the actions. We loved how he told stories and that our families came to see him too.

Evie, Adeline, Chili and Edith, Year 1/2.

This was the first time I saw him. I loved all the actions. Eddie, Year 3/4.

Luke's Wardrobe was my favourite song - Cooper, Year 3/4.

Learn to Swim - Prep - Year 4

Learn to swim commences tomorrow for Prep - Year 2 students. Year 3/4 will commence on Thursday 3rd April. Further information can be found here.

Meet our Team

This is our amazing Year 5/6 team! The teachers and support staff  in this team create a fun and rich learning environment for our students final primary years, as you will see when you read all about them!

Mr Travis Cruse

Born in 1991, I was lucky enough to experience the best of punk-rock, pop, techno, electronic, dance, Christian remixes! Anything that causes a burst of energy. I love anything loud that is not country (snooze...).

My greatest accomplishments are: finding an epic wife, having three amazing children, becoming a teacher, traveling the world and I even completed a marathon once!

My favourite place in Tasmania is the East Coast. As much as I thought it was boring growing up there as a young whipper snapper, it really is a beautiful part of the world. My favourite place in the world is Japan. That place is adrenaline!

I’d love to have the power of teleportation. Imagine never having to sit in traffic again or waiting in long queues. Plus, I could easily travel around the world in a blink of an eye! Imagine being able to have breakfast in Tasmania, lunch in Paris, and dinner in New York.

I would definitely want to be friends with Moses. He led the Israelites through such incredible challenges and kept his faith even when things seemed impossible. Plus, how cool would it be to witness the parting of the Red Sea firsthand? I’d love to hear his stories about being in the wilderness and, of course, learn a bit about how he communicated with God. He seems like someone with lots of wisdom and great leadership skills!

As a kid, I always wanted to be an actor. I enjoyed the humour of Jim Carrey, who could make people laugh with his hilarious, over-the-top performances. While I didn’t end up in Hollywood, I still enjoy putting on a good performance in the classroom quite often.

Fun fact... I have visited over 20 countries. I love to travel the world!

Mrs Robyn Angliss

My favourite song when I was a kid was Dancing Queen by Abba. In fact, I loved all music by ABBA.

My favourite place in Tasmania is Boat Harbour beach; my favourite place overseas was visiting the city of Kotor in Montenegro - amazing scenery!

If I could have a super power I’d go with being Jeanie, from the television series, I Dream of Jeanie! That way I could think of something I wanted to get done,  blink my eyes and have it sorted. It would make doing house work super-efficient.

If I could be friends with someone in the Old Testament I would like to get to know Jehu in 2 Kings 9:20. It talks about him being a pretty wild driver. As I like a bit of excitement it would be fun to go on a drive with him!

When I was a child I wanted to grow up to be Wonder Woman!

Fun Fact: I loved eating Italian gelato ice-cream! They have some amazing flavours!

Mr Zeb Overton

Favourite song/artist: I love all music.

Greatest accomplishment: It would have to be my wife and children.

Favourite place in Tasmania and favourite place in the world: We have just built and moved into our new home over the summer, so right now, that’s my favourite place in the world.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why: The ability to fly would be amazing.

If you could be friends with someone in the Old Testament, who would it be and why: I would say Adam, I’ve always wondered whether he has a belly button or not, and I would ask him what the fruit tasted like and if a talking snake back then was normal.

What was your childhood dream job or who did you want to grow up to be like: Maybe a policeman, or a pilot or an electrician, but an artist would be good fun.

Fun Fact about me: When I was five I got burned by a firecracker, it went down my gumboot and melted it. Also, Tyrell’s Mature Cheddar and Chives are my favourite chips in the world.

Mrs Claire Pienaar

My favourite artist is For King and Country.

My greatest accomplishment is being a mum to three children.

My favourite place in Tasmania is any beach in summer! My favourite place in the world is Cape Town.

If I could choose a superpower it would be time-travel, to get more things done.

If I could be friends with someone in the Old Testament it would be Puah, because I'd want to encourage her to keep doing the important task of saving babies!

My childhood dream job was to be a lawyer and fight for the justice of those without voices.

My favourite colours are pink and yellow.

Mrs Anna De Haan

There are too favourite songs and artists to choose! I'm currently enjoying Behold Him by Paul Baloche.

My greatest accomplishment is learning to pursue my own hopes and dreams regardless of what others may think.

My favourite place in Tasmania is close to home, Port Sorell, a place that holds many amazing, fun, happy memories.

The Holy Spirit is my super power, knowing Him, Loving Him and sharing His love, joy and goodness to others.

If I could choose a friend in the Old Testament I would be friends with King David. He was bold and fearless, he fought for what was right, was a loyal friend even if it cost his life and he was a worshipper who just wanted to be with God and know His heart. He wasn’t afraid of conviction or correction but was over whelmed by the glory, goodness and mercy of God.

When I grew up I wanted to be a veterinary assistant.

Fun fact about me: I love to crochet and am learning the ukelele… but I cant do it at the same time.

Mrs Lisa Burke

My favourite song changes regularly however at the moment it's Way Maker.

My greatest accomplishment is my family and completing my Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education).

I don't have a favourite place in Tassie, however my favourite place in the world would be my grandparents farm in Victoria; so many wonderful childhood memories.

If I could have a super power it would be to have a clean house at the click of my fingers, because housework is never done, there's always something to do!!

If I could be friends with someone in the Old Testament I would choose Esther as she demonstrates courage, and I believe we all often need to find courage to do what is right, which isn't always easy. I'd like to think her faithfulness and courage would be inspiring and as her friend would somewhat rub off on me too!!

My childhood dream job was to be a teacher.

Fun fact about me: I've recently become a Nana!!
