PRINCIPAL UPDATE 

Good afternoon,

Welcome back to a cold and wintery Term 3.  I hope everyone has enjoyed a fabulous break.  Students have enjoyed sharing stories of their day trips, activities, and holidays away.

Congratulations again to Sarah Jeffreys for her position as Acting Principal at Queenscliff Primary School.  We are missing her already but very excited for her to have this well-deserved opportunity. Queenscliff is lucky to have her.

We are in the process of finalising an Acting Assistant Principal for the term here at Chilwell.  This will be confirmed in the coming days.  This will mean some staffing changes in a class, but I will keep relevant families fully informed when decisions are finalised.

We are excited with our new line marking and have loved watching students enjoy these spaces.  The contractors have a couple more areas to complete and we thank parents and community for enabling this to happen due to funds raised from Chilwell Fair.  We are continuing to upgrade the front of the school, with new turf coming in later this term and a revamp of the sandpits.

We are also looking to purchase a new bike rack with funds raised by our Student Fundraising Committee from the Special Lunch on the last day of Term 2.  Thank you to the committee for their efforts on this day, and to parent, Sarah Jeremiah, along with staff Louisa, Sarah and Deb for assisting students with this.

CCTV has been installed over the break, and the signs will be placed around the school next week.  We hope that the investment in these cameras will see a reduction in the misuse of our school grounds after hours and over the weekend.  Again having damage to our astroturf by electric scooters over the break, water pipes damaged in the sensory garden and disappointing to hear that Jade and her team from Team Kids being disrespected when asking children to respect our school grounds.

Congratulations to Millie S, Shaayan A and Harry K for being shortlisted for the Order of Australia Association, Barwon Regional, Primary School Citizenship Awards for 2026.  These students will attend an afternoon in August, whereby they will present to members of this organisation about developing pride in Australian citizenship and their understanding of citizenship itself.  We wish them all the best for this, and we're very proud of their effort in being shortlisted.  Well done to other students for their applications.

We are just finalising our Prep enrolments for 2027 and ask that if there are any outstanding sibling enrolment forms that these get submitted ASAP.  This information is imperative in our planning with staffing for the 2027 school year.

We are very much looking forward to the term ahead.  It is a concert term, so let’s watch this excitement build!! Save the Date - 7pm Wednesday 16th September, Geelong Arena - more information including ticketing to following in future newsletters and Compass.

Please also note that I have been in contact with council multiple times over the past 6 weeks in regards to the trees on Huntingdon Street, and have been assured branches will be removed and trees trimmed over the coming week.
