Maths Excursion
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The Maths Department is thrilled to announce an upcoming excursion designed to enhance the practical application of mathematical skills developed during Term 1 and Term 2. This unique opportunity will see students engage with real-world scenarios in the heart of the city, reinforcing their understanding of key concepts in an interactive and engaging manner.
Learning Focus: The excursion will focus on two main areas of study:
- Managing Money & Calculating Time:
- Students will apply their knowledge to calculate total expenditures, understand and compute GST, and read and interpret bills.
- They will explore different payment options, such as EFTPOS and credit cards, and analyse the financial implications of their choices.
- Students will practice calculating the time spent at various locations and activities.
- They will learn to convert this data into total units of time, enhancing their time management and arithmetic skills.
Assessment Component:
Students will complete a task book during the excursion, which will form an integral part of their assessment for the term. This hands-on activity will provide a practical context for the skills they have learned in the classroom, ensuring they can confidently apply these practices in everyday situations.
