Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) is a planned and compulsory part of our VCE Vocational Major for our Year 11 and Year 12 students. It involves participation in industries relevant to their career and further study ambitions. Furthermore, the program allows students to practice and develop skills in a professional setting. For some students, this is their first time in a workplace and it provides an opportunity for them to practice foundational skills that are transferrable to any work environment. SWL engenders learning around relevant, industry-specific employment and training, helps build long-term connections with employers and expand job prospects.

The VCE Vocational Major is a pathway available for senior school students that can lead to employment directly after Year 12. This is why the integration of practical experience and academic learning is vital. Some of our students are completing an SWL in the industry aligned with an external VCE VET program or their school-based apprenticeship (SBAT). We currently have 15 students attending VCE VETs delivered outside of school at Kangan Institute and Kolbe Catholic College. Some of qualifications which are being obtained include pre-apprenticeships in Building and Construction, Automotive Mechanics, and Electrotechnology, and certificates in Early Childhood and Education and Beauty Services. For more information about how to gain entry into the VCE Vocational Major, Structured Workplace Learning and School-based Apprenticeships, visit our College Careers website at - www.craigieburnsccareers.com or book an appointment with the Pathways team.
