Junior School

As parents, it is easy to get caught up in the daily rush—lunchboxes, uniforms, homework, app notices, Consent 2 Go permission slips, and the occasional missing school shoe as you are running out the door! But amid all the busy moments, there is a gentle reminder worth holding close: every stage of childhood is a precious gift.

The early years are filled with wonder—the wide eyes at a rainbow, the curiosity of a hundred “why” questions, the giggles during story time. These fleeting moments are the fabric of childhood, and each one carries its own kind of joy.

In our Junior School, we are privileged to witness so many of these moments each day: the confidence a student builds as they read aloud for the first time, the kindness shown when a child reaches out to a new friend, the joy on their faces when they discover something new about God’s creation. These are not small things—they are glimpses of growth, character, and wonder in motion.

We encourage you to take time this week to savour a moment with your child—listen closely to a story they are telling, linger a little longer at bedtime, or celebrate a small success. These moments may seem ordinary, but they are truly extraordinary.

Let’s find joy not just in milestones, but in the journey. Childhood isn’t a race to the next stage—it’s a season to be cherished, one joyful step at a time.

As we reach the midpoint of Term 2, students and teachers in Junior School have been actively involved in a range of assessment activities. These opportunities not only help track each child’s progress but also allow us to celebrate the learning and growth that has taken place throughout Semester 1. At the end of the term, mid-year reports will be available for parents to access online through SEQTA Engage.

In Week 5, Junior School students took part in the joy of National Simultaneous Storytime—a much-loved annual event that celebrates Australian children's literature and encourages a love of reading across the nation. On Wednesday 21 May, students joined thousands of others across Australia in reading The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell. This charming story follows a curious cat who finds an unlikely home in a truck, taking readers on a gentle journey of friendship, adventure, and finding where you belong. A big thank you goes to our dedicated Resource Centre staff for bringing this special event to life for our students.

We are delighted to recognise students who have consistently demonstrated the values of Respect, Obedience, Acceptance, and Resilience through our ROAR Awards. During Chapel, in Week 5,  these students were celebrated for the way they quietly but powerfully reflect the heart of our school values in both their words and actions. Whether through acts of kindness, attentive listening, including others, or persevering through challenges, each recipient reminded us that character is often shown in the everyday choices we make. It was a joy to honour them in front of their peers and acknowledge the positive impact they have on our school community. Congratulations to all our ROARsome students who received the Roar Award for the first half of Term 2.

On Thursday afternoon, 29 May, our Buddy Chapel was a joyful time of connection and celebration. Buddies from across different year levels sat side by side in the Chapel, enjoying a Praise and Worship session led by Miss Newton. Together, they lifted their voices and shared in the joy of worship. Students also listened attentively to a meaningful message brought by one of the Kids leaders from LMC, Liam Wilson-Gardner. We are so grateful to our Junior School staff for organising this special event that reminded us of God’s love and the blessing of community.
