Term 1, Week 5

Dear St FX Parents and Carers,

It has been wonderful to see our hallways buzzing with energy and to hear the playground filled with laughter once again. We have hit the ground running, and there is already a fantastic sense of focus and community in every classroom.

A very special welcome goes out to our new families joining us this year, and a huge "well done" to our newest students in Kindergarten. Starting school is a massive milestone, and we are incredibly impressed by how quickly our littlest learners have settled in, and made new friends. We are so glad you’re all part of our school family, and we can’t wait to see what we achieve together this year!

I must say that I also thoroughly enjoy the “good mornings” and “how are you today” that I receive from students and their families each morning. Your smiles and happy dispositions are the highlight of my day!

 Getting to Know Your Child

We are excited to invite you to our "Getting to Know Your Child" meetings this week. These short, 10-minute sessions are a great opportunity for us to learn all about your child from you!

The Purpose:

Unlike our later reporting sessions, the goal of this meeting is for you to be the expert. Because we are still in the early stages of the term, we dedicate this time for you to share insights that will help us support your child’s well-being and learning journey from day one.

What Could You Share?

  • Interests and Passions: What gets them excited? (e.g., dinosaurs, drawing, Minecraft, soccer).
  • Strengths and Challenges: What do they feel confident doing, and what makes them feel a bit anxious? Are they a bit shy when asking for help in front of others?
  • Home Dynamics: Any big changes at home, such as a new sibling, a recent move, or a change in routine.
  • Friendships: Who do they connect well with?
  • Health and Sleep: Anything we should know regarding their energy levels or physical needs?

2026 St FX Swimming Carnival

A big thank you to our Carnival organisers - Jess Craig, Janelle Nehrkorn and Becky Hogan - who pulled off another successful carnival.  We hoped to provide something for everyone. From our beginning swimmers who were a little nervous, to our competitive swimmers wanting to qualify for the Diocesan carnival. A huge congratulations to all our 2026 age champions! For further details please read our Sport Report!

Family Mass

Thank you to the families who joined us on Saturday evening for our first Family Mass for 2026. It was heartwarming to see all the children celebrating Mass, which was led by Fr Max Davis. We have recently been appointed a parish priest - Fr John Fowles, which means we say goodbye to Fr Max. I wish to personally thank Fr Max for his ongoing support and involvement with our staff and students. His homilies are always engaging and our students really enjoy listening to the message of the Gospels when Fr Max speaks.

Family Mass is held on the fourth Saturday of each month (during the school terms), so please keep your eyes peeled for dates for our next one!

Leadership Mass

Our Leaders were inducted at our Mass on Thursday, 12th February. It was a beautiful ceremony which was well attended by parents, families and parishioners. Thank you to Mrs Emily Quirk, Mrs Alex Conroy, Mr Mark Rottger and our REC - Mrs Rhonda McInnes for preparing a beautiful celebration. Congratulations Year 6, and we look forward to seeing what you bring as leaders to our school.

 NSW Premier's Reading Challenge

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." — Dr. Seuss

Mrs Kym Capp has been organising NSW Premier's Reading Challenge. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. Please see the flyer attached in this edition of the school newsletter. Challenge opens today - Monday 23rd February 2026

Parents & Friends Association

Our family “Sizzle & Softies” evening is Friday 6th March at 5:30pm - 7:00pm under the school COLA. All families are invited to attend this free event. This is a chance to meet our staff, new families and connect with our school community. A BIG thank you in advance for the tireless efforts of our P & F committee who work so hard to provide these community events.

May God bless you,

Mrs Michelle O’Connor
