Introducing Our New South Geelong Primary School Communities

We are excited to announce the launch of our new SGPS Communities, each inspired by the unique landscapes, stories, and living creatures of Wadawurrung Country. These Communities will strengthen connections across the school, build positive relationships, and deepen our shared understanding of local culture and environment.

BLUE COMMUNITY – WARRI (Salt Water) Representing the bay and the life it sustains, Warri reminds us of calmness, connection, and the power of community.

Animal Representative: Seal – Kurrman

YELLOW COMMUNITY – LAKORRA (Sky) Lakorra symbolises the warmth and energy of the sun, bringing optimism, curiosity, and the joy of learning. Animal Representative: Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo – Wirran

RED COMMUNITY – YALUK (River) Inspired by the rich red of the river red gums (biyal) that line the Barwon River, Yaluk represents strength, growth, and the deep roots of our school community.

Animal Representative: Ring-Tail Possum – Barnong

I am also excited to share some initial draft visual images of our animal representatives, created by local artist Billy Jay. These designs will help bring our Communities to life and build a strong sense of identity for our students.

We look forward to seeing our students learn, grow, and celebrate together within their new Communities. This is an exciting step in strengthening our culture of belonging at South Geelong Primary School.

Welcome & Connection Meetings

Thank you to all families who have already booked their times for our Welcome and Connection Meetings next week on Tuesday 3rd March and Wednesday 4th March. We really appreciate your commitment to building strong partnerships from the very start of the year.

If you haven’t yet secured a time, bookings are now available via Compass.

A reminder that the purpose of these meetings is for you to share your child’s strengths, learning preferences, social and emotional needs, and any other important information that will help us support them to thrive in 2026.

We look forward to connecting with you.

Warm regards,

Mick Georgiadis
