Beginning of School Year Mass
On Friday 6th February we had a beautiful Mass to celebrate the beginning of our school year. During the Mass, Fr Colin blessed our class candles. A special thank you to Fr Colin for celebrating the Mass and to our students and staff for participating so wonderfully throughout the celebration. We look at following the ‘Light of Christ’ in all we do throughout this year.
Church Season of Lent
Last week our Church celebrated Ash Wednesday. This day marked the beginning of the Season of Lent (which lasts for 40 days) and is a time of preparation for Easter. On this day we were blessed with ashes, which calls us to turn away from sin (poor choices) and to follow Jesus in our words and actions.
2nd Sunday of Lent (Sunday 1st March)
This Sunday we celebrate the 2nd Sunday of Lent. In the Gospel, we read about a time when Jesus took Peter, James and John with him to climb a high mountain. While there, Peter James and John saw Jesus change before their eyes. As a bright cloud covered everyone they all heard a voice, “This is my beloved son….Listen to him.” The true nature of Jesus and his work was revealed to them in what is known as The Transfiguration. We are asked today to take action on what Jesus calls us to do- to love our neighbour, care for the needy, and be kind to others.
Gospel Mt 17:1-9 The Transfiguration of Jesus
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew
Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone. There in their presence he was transfigured; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became as white as the light. Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them; they were talking with him. Then Peter spoke to Jesus. ‘Lord,’ he said ‘it is wonderful for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’ He was still speaking when suddenly a bright cloud covered them with shadow, and from the cloud there came a voice which said, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him.’ When they heard this, the disciples fell on their faces, overcome with fear. But Jesus came up and touched them. ‘Stand up,’ he said ‘do not be afraid.’ And when they raised their eyes they saw no one but only Jesus.
As they came down from the mountain Jesus gave them this order. ‘Tell no one about the vision until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.’

Transfiguration Prayer
Heavenly Father,
from the dazzling cloud you revealed Jesus
in glory as your beloved Son.
Hear and answer our prayers:
enlighten us with the bright glory
of your presence,
inspire us by your word, and so transform us
into the image of the risen Lord.
Amen
St Mark’s Saints Club
Thanks to the children who have chosen to be members of our Saints Club. We look forward to putting our Mercy Values into action by making a difference to people within and beyond our school and parish community.
Our group will meet over the coming weeks to discuss students’ ideas, including how our community will support this year’s Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion Appeal.
Project Compassion boxes have been given to each learning area and more are available at St Mark’s Church.
