Principal's Report

Mrs Pauline Barker

Welcome back to the 2026 school year!

A very warm welcome to all our new students and their families, especially our Year 7 cohort as they begin their secondary school journey with us.

We have enjoyed a positive and energetic start to the year. Each year level attended a welcome assembly upon their return, where four key messages were shared to set the tone for a successful year ahead.

1. Embrace New Opportunities The beginning of a new school year brings fresh starts and exciting possibilities. Take every opportunity to explore your interests, try something new, and challenge yourself to grow. Whether it’s joining a club, participating in sport, or getting involved in extracurricular activities, these experiences enrich your school life, help build confidence, and create lasting friendships.

2. Strive for Academic Excellence We are proud of our strong culture of academic growth and achievement. Our teachers are dedicated to supporting every student to learn, improve, and succeed. Remember that learning is a process. Ask questions, seek support when you need it, and commit to doing your best. Consistent effort and perseverance make a real difference.

3. Live Our College Values Our values guide the way we learn and work together. Show Respect and Equality by being kind, inclusive, and considerate of others. Celebrate the diversity within our community and learn from one another. Demonstrate Courage and Aspiration by taking on challenges, stepping outside your comfort zone, and striving to reach your potential. Always act with integrity and encourage others to do the same.

4. Prioritise Wellbeing Student wellbeing remains at the heart of everything we do. If you need support, please reach out to a teacher, school counsellor, or a trusted friend. We are committed to ensuring every student feels safe, supported, and connected throughout the year.

Our Strategic Priorities

Our School Strategic Plan contains two goals.  Each year we develop an Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) to focus our school improvement work.  In 2026 our goals and priorities are:

Goal 1:  Improve all students’ achievement and learning growth.

Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0

Build all teachers’ capability to use highly effective teaching strategies within the school’s instructional model.

Students’ point of learning need

Build all teachers’ capacity to deliver teaching and learning matched to students’ point of learning need.

Goal 2: Optimise all students’ wellbeing and engagement in learning.

Multi-tiered systems of support

Strengthen whole-school strategies that promote inclusion, attendance, participation and readiness to learn for all students.

Student voice and agency

Strengthen teachers’ capability to activate students’ engagement and agency in learning.

VCE/VM Achievements

We are very proud of the Class of 2025 and their achievements.  The All School Median Study Score was 29, an increase of 2 from 2024. There were 20 study scores above 35 and 6 study scores above 40.  Exceptional results were achieved across all study areas, in particular Business Management, English, Extended Investigation, Health and Human Development, Legal Studies, General Maths, Music- Contemporary Performance, Physical Education, VET Sport and Recreation.

All VCE students who applied for tertiary studies received an offer.  Of the 39 offers for tertiary studies made to our students, 30 students received their first preference. This is a tremendous result for our students.

The VCE Vocational Major outcomes were also fantastic with 22 students competing the Vocational Major Certificate.  Of these, 4 students are in apprenticeships/traineeships, 11 students are in further study, and 7 students are in employment.

We acknowledge the great work of teachers and our pathways team of Ms Jane Alexander and Mr Andrew Ericksen.

Child Safe Standards:   Our Commitment to Child Safety

Greensborough College is unwavering in its commitment to child safety. As a community, we strive to ensure that every child and young person feels safe, valued, and empowered. We respect and support all students, as well as our staff and volunteers, and are dedicated to fostering an environment where everyone can thrive.

We maintain a strong commitment to the safety, participation, and empowerment of all young people. The College has zero tolerance for child abuse, and any concerns or allegations are taken seriously and addressed in line with our comprehensive policies and procedures. We uphold our legal and moral responsibilities to act on any concerns about a child’s safety and follow mandated reporting requirements with diligence and care.

You will find the following policies on our website, http://greensc.vic.edu.au/ and I encourage parents/carers to become familiar with them.

  • Child Safety Policy

  • Child Safety Code of Conduct Policy

  • Child Safety Responding and Reporting Obligations

  • Duty of Care Policy

  • Visitors Policy

  • Bullying Prevention Policy

  • Student Wellbeing and Engagement Policy

We ask families to support the college and our child safety practices by doing the following:

  1. When visiting the college, all parents, carers, and visitors to the college are required to report to the Administration Building (Nepean Street entry) and to sign in and out. The Visitors Policy explains this procedure further.

  2. When dropping off students, parents/carers are required to do this outside the school grounds on the street kerb taking notice of the no standing signs. The car park at the school is for staff only.  The car park at the Sports Precinct is for staff and visitors during the school day.

Attendance

A key priority for the College is to improve the attendance rate of all students across all year levels. High levels of attendance at school equates to greater positive outcomes for students and adults in life.  Below is important information about daily attendance. Absence from school should only be for illness.
