Wellbeing

Kate Bonazza - Primary Wellbeing officer

At Breakfast Club in 2024 I have had amazing help from parents, staff and students throughout the year. I would like to especially thank Narrelle Conway and Grant Flack who have been parent volunteers. They have spent their time helping to feed students at Breakfast Club. I would also like to thank each of the staff and students that have also assisted. I am currently recovering from ankle surgery, and I will be off crutches and driving again in January.

We’re excited to have recently joined the URSTRONG Schools community. URSTRONG is all about empowering students with friendship skills while providing the adults in their lives, both parents and teachers, with a common language to support them. Kids learn what’s normal in a friendship, the difference between healthy and unhealthy friendships and how to stand up for themselves with kid-friendly concepts. CALM YOUTH

This year our wellbeing team have partnered up with CALM, a youth led organisation that seeks to empower young people through meaningful tailored engagement programs.  CALM Youth has facilitated their Inspiring Purpose Through Passion program for 20 of our 5 /6 students. CALM Youth facilitated their program by using a hands-on, strengths-based model that was relatable to our young people through lived experience of hardship and developing passion. The workshops were practical and with students applying the learned concepts to real life settings. We are extremely grateful to be successful in receiving $15,000 funding to run this program, we look forward to seeing what funding opportunities arise for 2025!

Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships 2025

Bundoora Primary School is dedicated to the teaching of Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships through the curriculum materials provided by the Department of Education.

Dedicated teaching of the RRRR curriculum promotes respect, positive attitudes and behaviours and provides regular practise for the development of students’ social, emotional and positive relationship skills.  Areas that are included in the curriculum are: Emotional Literacy, Personal Strengths, Positive Coping, Problem Solving and Stress Management.  The curriculum is tailored across all year levels and extends into secondary school.

RRRR teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence and contributes to the calm, positive environment that students thrive in at Bundoora Primary School

Research tells us that providing respectful relationships education at school can lead to positive impacts on students’ academic outcomes, their mental health, classroom behaviour and relationships.

The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships resources have 8 topics that teach students about emotional literacy, personal and cultural strengths, resilience, problem-solving, stress-management, help-seeking, gender norms and stereotypes and positive gender relations. Students will be explicitly taught all 8 topics throughout the year.

Talking about Feelings

Some of our wonderful prep students have had the opportunity to practise and develop the art of healthy emotional expressions. The Bear cards help students to discuss their feelings and realise they are not alone. The sessions help to normalise student’s feelings and experiences, and to achieve a sense of belonging within the group. Students are encouraged to pick a care to illustrate how they are feeling in a safe and supported environment.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyed holiday break!
