Learning Update

From Mr Collins 3-6
Hey everyone. Hoping you're all enjoying the kids being back at school after a fantastic break. I managed to escape the rain by venturing to Tasmania which was an incredible experience for my family. Whilst no warmer, the sun was shining. I can see why Ruby and Levi love it so much.
English
Now that we are back, it is vital that all of the kids resume reading of a night. There really isn't anything more important than having a sound reading ability and this is developed through consistent practice both at school and home (Mathsmates will come home next week). In writing we are trying out hand at some poetry and will be publishing some pieces to bring home so keep an eye out for them.
Maths
We've started with some refreshers of place value this week and the kids are loving challening me in a game of beat the teacher. So far they haven't managed to get me, but when Mr Sait had a turn the kids took complete control.
TRP (The Resilience Project)
We have taken a different direction in our latest lessons of The Resilience Project. The kids are designing their own board games, focusing on how they can drive teamwork and participation through engagement. We are only one session into our build but will continue next Monday.
PE
With a new timetable comes new PE slots. The kids were over the moon to hear that they will now be doing formal PE lessons 3 times per week. 2 of these are in split classes but 1 will be a whole school lesson, allowing us to play larger games with more participants.
Integrated Studies
This term we will look at Australian History and we are doing this by creating a large timeline on our wall. Preparations have begun and the kids are loving working as a whole class to complete work together.
From Ms Lehre P-2
Literacy
This week we have been learning about:
- Plurals and how they show that there is more than one. We have been having lots of fun practising with our class chant: "Plural means more than one!"
The oi / oy sound, exploring words such as oil, coil, toy, and boy.
Numeracy
This week we have been learning about:
- Reviewing our understanding of place value using MAB blocks to represent numbers and build strong number knowledge.
Students have enjoyed using hands-on materials to explore place value and demonstrate their mathematical thinking.
Paparazzi – Lorelei
This term, I've introduced a (tiny!) digital camera to our classroom. Each week, a different student takes on the role of capturing special moments both in the classroom and out in the yard.
This highly coveted classroom job is called "Paparazzi," and it's already proving to be a big hit. I think you'll all agree that this week's Paparazzi absolutely nailed the brief. Go Lorelei!
Highlight
- Beginning our history unit by exploring the concepts of past, present, and future.
- Preparing to create our own personal timelines next week. If you have a baby photo of your child that you would be happy to send in, it would be greatly appreciated to support this exciting learning activity!
And a very warm welcome new student Abby! You have settled in to class so well – we are so proud of you!
