Poetry by LA7 & LA8

Several Year 5 & 6 students have chosen to share their poems based upon the structure of William Wordsworth’s composition, ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’ (also known as ‘Daffodils’).

As I walk by the creek

As I walk by the creek,

While the river dance,

As the green grasshoppers sneak,

And the kangaroos kindly prance.

When the flowers start to grow,

The sun starts to show.

Then I see a butterfly,

That is colourful and bright,

She blends in with the sky,

And can fly really high.

When the creek starts to come to life,

Then out comes the wildlife.

Rainforest Dream

The relentless rain poured over the tree

And the wind blew very far

As the beautiful birds flew around with glee

The sunny sky revealed a star

When the day became night

The beautiful moon gave me light.

At last I get to explore the frosty forest

To search and fulfill my find

And to be beautifully honest

As I am very kind

I am on my way to find tidy treasure

And ready to seek with my perfect pleasure.

As I walk next to the waterfall

I smell the scent of floral

And then I see the crowed coral

I feel happiness flow into my heart

And never want to grow apart.

The wind’s breeze is cold

As the trees began to frost

They stood bold

But I will find my way

From the light of the day.

The Beach

The singing seagulls squawkedfried food cooking on The beachwhile wondering families happily walkedWhen washing waves sway out of reachThe ocean lays gently out in the openGiving an energy that can’t be broken

Sand in between my toesThe wind gently brushes my faceGiving me a feeling not everyone KnowsThe plants sway in a gentle graceI lay down peaceful and calmThe sun gently shines down on my palm

The Waterfall

The soft serene sounds,

In the waterfall deep down,

It used to be a battleground,

And now where ancient and unique secrets frown,

Birds calmly and softly squawk,

And explores talk.

The towering trees,

With bluebirds singing,

In the beautiful breeze,

Such a wonderful sound ringing,

The diminutive insects dance,

Making my heart prance

Soggy wet plants,

With cold water trickling down the pot,

The plants cheerfully chant,

The rainforest heat is stifling hot,

The secrets of the forest are sang by the floor,

Which opens the rainforests doors

Neon Sky

I look at the beautiful lights

They really catch my eye

Although I can’t see anything behind me because it is night

But I focus more on the beautiful, vivid colours in the sky

It looks like a colourful rainbow at dusk

But I almost slipped off a rock because of the musk

This makes me feel lightened

I also could not but feel joyful

The animals may be frightened

But this sight is so peaceful

Honestly this view is such a delight

It really is a beautiful sight.

The Silence of a Desert

The silence of the desert spoke,

As the lazy sun climbed the sky,

Then all at once I felt a poke,

A calling for me to say goodbye,

I ignore that calling for goodbyes and walk along the spiky rocks,

I walk away from the house oh how I’ll miss those delightful docks.

The dusty wind caught my throat,

While the crinkled sage crossed my path,

It's time to take off my big coat,

Maybe I should head back home now and take a nice warm bath,

But the desert is so curious! So much more to see,

So I'm not leaving yet, don’t even try to make me!

Then all of a sudden I’m surrounded by hills kind of like a maze,

I look around to see what's going on

But then I start to gaze,

At the rocks around me that shone,

I just love everything the desert brings,

But I must get home before the alarm rings.

The Forests

The tremendously tall and towering trees swayed in the breeze

Monkeys swing from tree to tree moving with glee

Until all at once they freeze

So the monkeys decided to flee

Adored by all happening around

I take a seat on the ground

The relentless amount of rough rocks that relentlessly spread across in everlasting rays

Left the birds to be only seen in a slight gaze

Throughout the bay the all spread in the day

And they formed an intricate maze

Every day I awaited to see

The new patterns the rocks had created for me

The early morning sun soars high into the sky scorching and shining bright

Up high it soars lightening the town

It stood so high and tall with all its might

Changing all early morning frowns

Starting the day or ending for some

But also giving reasons for animals to come

The crowd of creative creatures wander

Searching endlessly for food

But not much luck they were only left to ponder

Because of the lack of food it brought a bad mood

So at the end they went back

And slept in their giant sacks.

The Beach

I went to the beach

Me and my cousins went crazy

Ice-cream - we got one each

It went all hazy

When we were in glee

Day’s end, I did not want to see

We saw sharp rocks

When it was the end of the day

I put on my socks

A guy shouted hey

Lollypops I sold

The ocean water was cold.

The Blazing Hot Beach

On the blazing hot beach,

Where we play

We have two freezing ice-creams each

And lay for the day

The super soft sand is nice and warm

I get up and my shirt is torn!

Lucky for me I have a spear shirt

It’s time for me to surf

Sadly my brother looks very hurt

But everyone's faces are filled with mirth

There are lots of people on a bobbling boat

That is far afloat

There are busy bees buzzing around

The waves are crashing very loud

From here I can see the town’s bounds

My mum looks very proud

The super silly seagulls are swooping down

One of them is wearing a crown

I see a family of turtles racing to the water

The sun is smiling at me now

There’s a family with one daughter

In one more hour we are going to leave so I take a bow

The sun is setting, were going to go soon

I can already see the moon

The Park

I walked into a lush and beautiful park.

Saw I at a glance, a kid playing with a ball.

I hurt myself by stepping onto a sharp bit of bark.

So I made a call.

But they didn’t want to talk.

So then I took a walk.

On the playground there was a big slide.

I saw a small red pole.

The slide was bright yellow and wide.

While I was walking I saw bits of coal.

I called out to someone that was in the park.

That was sitting on some bark.

I heard some kids playing and laughing.

The scenery was beautiful.

So I started photographing.

The kids were acting unusual.

I didn’t pay much attention.

One of the kids hurt themselves without intention.

I got tired so I sat on a bench.

Clouds started to appear.

It started raining so I got drenched.

I turned around and the kids disappeared.

I started walking to cover.

While I was under the cover, I saw my long lost brother.

That One Family Holiday

The beach sees seagulls squawking as they circle my dad’s beer.

He went to go grab it but instead hurts his knee,

As he hurts his knee he then screams out ‘o dear me’

Sofia laughs with all her heart.

A lifelong memory like a piece of art.

After all that, I decided to take a dip in the water that had a sensational feeling.

In there I was continuously kicking,

Until I saw Sofia stealing,

But I realised she was tricking.

Issy asked if she can use my bogy board,

As she got a glass of water poured.

The weather became more hot,

Thank God the water was cold.

We made a sand castle using a pot.

As we were doing it I accidentally

swallowed sand that was crunchy,

But my cousin was too busy munching.

It was time to go to the cabin which felt like home.

I hopped in the shower that ran wet water.

Then brushed my hair with a comb,

That was torture!

After all that I ended an excellent day,

By the beautiful bay.

The Lake

The moon smiled down on the earth,

The leaves rustled in the wind, gossiping with each other.

The dog's tail wagged happily, expressing joy.

The magnificent lake made people feel with mirth.

My brother and I rushed to the paddocks to jump into the water.

The logs distracted the active men

that act off a gladiator,

making us use a trail to the other paddocks

making it chiller

and more quiet to jump.

We saw the tall trees filled with vines going in lines.

The river was shining so bright that when we jumped we realised there was hay in the river  making us jog to shore and get to a dock to jump.

The leaves of the  tall trees covered us until we jumped off the dock unexpectedly giving us a big lump.

We laid on the gorgeous inflatable donuts and talked about the secrets my brother and I had done over the years.

The flowers nodded in the breeze.

The raindrops danced on the trees

making wet leaves hit me.

It was almost time to leave, an hour left. I decided we should go with the canoes to go canoeing so we wait for the perfect time.

As we went canoeing on the canoes

we saw a zoo at the lake.

We see kids everywhere at the small Island zoo,

brother saw a kid with a Winnie the pooh

toy and we saw a kid filled with joy.

One thousand people saw it at a glance

with people doing a dance.

As it was time to leave we saw one last leaf poking trying to come to us, we went and never came back.

The Brutal Desert

All I can hear is the sound of ringing

Without any water I am done

Everything is hot, wet and stinging

I came here alone unlike some

The blistering hot sun resting along my back

I don't know where I am, I lost my track

Scorpions scuttling across the sand

Money I needed, it is all I seek

I don't see anything this place is bland

I should’ve said no, I should’ve been meek

The desert is brutal, I thought it would be easy

But my body hurts and my stomach queasy

At last I see an awesome oasis

Yet when I came closer it departed abrupt

So close to water, a beautiful bliss

But of course it vanished this world so corrupt

Often it arrived, a massive barrage

Then my eyes deceived me again as it was just a mirage

So long I waited, so long I walked

Yet the longer I did the more I lost hope

Then I turned around the feeling of being stalked

Did not to expect to see a dancing climbing rope

So far, so high up in the endless sky

A massive chopper, so away I fly.

Walking Through the Streets of Japan

Walking through the streets of Japan

I saw a scenic park

When all at once I caught a glance of a man,

And he was hurling dastardly darts,

I was walking through the night

Unexpectedly blinded with a neon light.

Cherry blossoms blooming full

I found a group of kids running

Calling me, the cherry blossoms started to pull

As I walked they began humming

Then the shadows appeared and loomed

It was almost the end of noon.

It was getting dark

As I walked through the whispering streets

Then I saw a suspicious mark

And smelt delicious fresh meats

The ominous road

That took you wherever you wanted to go.
