August: A Month of Stories in Symphony
Throughout August, Senior School students have been participating in a range of activities and competitions as part of our Book Month celebrations.
They have created poetry from book spines, tested their knowledge of books in trivia competitions, scavengers hunts and word searches, and kept an eye out for staff members dressed in red & white stripes as part of our Where's Wally challenge. Through all of these activities (and more!), our students have demonstrated enthusiasm, exuberance, and their identities as lifelong readers. A true Symphony of Stories in line with the CBCA Book Week 2026 theme.
This week will culminate our Book Month activities with:

Junior School Book Parade
On Monday, 24 August, our Junior School students brought their favourite book characters to life in the Junior School Book Parade, showcasing the imagination, curiosity and love of literature that we nurture throughout our school community. We saw a parade of wizards and robots, princesses and Pokemon, superheroes and magical creatures - as well as many, many sheep in the form of our wonderful Junior School staff.
This year’s Children's Book Council of Australia Book Week theme, Symphony of Stories, reminds us that every story has its own unique voice and contributes to a rich and wonderful chorus of ideas, experiences and perspectives. Throughout Term 3, each class has been exploring and discussing the CBCA shortlisted books, discovering memorable characters, meaningful messages and powerful storytelling.
Thank you to our students, staff and families for making this celebration so special. We hope the stories we have explored throughout this term and our Book Parade continue to inspire a lifelong love of reading and remind us that every story has an important place in the symphony of our lives.

Library After Dark
On Wednesday, 19 August, the Senior Library hosted its second 'Library After Dark' event for the year. Tying in with our Book Month celebrations, this event focused on the page to screen adaptation of The Hunger Games (novel written by Suzanne Collins).
A small group of students from Years 7-11 gathered in the Library to watch the film, sharing moments of surprise, exhilaration, and disbelief. Below are some reflections from those students who attended:
The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, and I really enjoyed being able to watch a movie while hanging out with my friends in such a comfortable environment. Overall, the experience was really enjoyable, and I am already looking forward to attending next year’s Library After Dark!
