Primary Interschool Soccer

Primary Soccer report
On the first day of term three, twelve Mildura Christian College primary students competed in the Sunraysia South Division soccer tournament at Red Cliffs’ Quandong Park.
Match 1 vs Red Cliffs Primary
Although evenly poised initially, MCC gained control of possession and dominated the majority of the match, creating several big chances without being able to score. The match ended 0-0.
Match 2 vs Red Cliffs East/Cardross/Koorlong A
MCC began well against the strongest team in the competition, but an error of judgement led to the concession of the opening goal. The disappointment didn’t last long however, as Nelson equalised within a minute, and after another two minutes had put MCC ahead. A disciplined and solid defence (Astin, Malachi, Levi and John) proved impenetrable, and clutch goalkeeping from Regan preserved the lead and the 2-1 victory.
Match 3 vs St Mary’s Robinvale
Only victory would secure progression to the final in MCC’s last pool match, and the team was rock solid. Bela Ami turned in a cross for the opening goal and doubled MCC’s advantage within minutes. He secured his hat-trick after half time, before goals from Nelson and Christian iced a commanding 5-0 win.
Final vs Nangiloc
Having topped Pool A, MCC faced Pool B’s winner. The team continued their strong form, playing disciplined and decisive soccer, with goals from Nelson and Bela Ami sending MCC to half time with a 2-0 lead. After narrowly missing several chances throughout the day, Noah Arnol turned in a cross for MCC’s third. A stretched leg save from Regan preserved the clean sheet, while at the other end relentless pressure paid off, with John smashing into the roof of the net and Nelson completing the day’s scoring for a 5-0 victory.
As a result, MCC has qualified to represent Sunraysia South in Swan Hill on August 19 at the LMR regional finals for the second year running. Congratulations to all of the players—our dependable goalkeeper Regan, our frugal defenders Astin, Malachi, Levi and John, our industrious midfielders Bela Ami, Christian and Noah Arnol, our enthusiastic subs Noah White, Claire and Alana, and our encouraging, calm and inspirational captain Nelson. Many thanks to the parents, Linda, Kelly, Brett, Laura and Mr Faoa who came and supported the team!
