Dear Westbreen PS Families,

Student Voice and Leadership at WPS

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the years 3-6 Junior School Council meeting, capably run by the school captains. Students were shown how to run a 'class carpark' in their own classes as a way to collect new ideas and questions from their peers. A reminder that our student leaders will be presented with their badges at assembly in Week 6 (Wednesday 4th March).

We want your feedback! Survey closes this Friday the 27th of February.

We are currently exploring a range of options to improve our communication with parents and families. We would love for you to complete this survey to provide feedback about XUNO and QKR! Click here to complete the survey - we really value your thoughts and it will only take 3 minutes of your time to complete.

Family Engagement at Westbreen Primary School

At WPS, we believe that when schools, homes and communities agree that they are stronger together than apart, students will be able to thrive academically and personally.

Good partnerships are based on:

• Open and honest communication

• Trust and respect

• Working together

• Fair and reasonable expectations by all.

The Department of Education Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy outlines the shared roles of parents, carers and school staff in creating a positive environment for learning. Click here to read this policy. As described in the recent post sent by our Assistant Principal Mr Kenny, we want all students, staff and families to feel safe and supported in our school environment. We want to emphasise the importance of raising issues or problems in a respectful manner with the school. It is not appropriate to approach other families or children in the school environment. If something has happened at school, please raise it with the class teacher or myself or Mr Kenny. You can raise concerns via telephone, email or in person. Read our WPS-Complaints-Policy.pdf to find out more.

There are also some great resources on how to get the best out of the School-Home partnership. Click here to find out more about how families can engage in learning.

Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews

Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews are being held on Tuesday 3rd March. These conferences run for 15 minutes between 12:00pm and 8:00pm.

Bookings are made through XUNO. The link can be found here

If you require an interpreter, please ensure that you check the box so that an interpreter can be booked. Bookings will open on Wednesday 18 February 6:00pm and remain open until Monday, 2 March 8:00am. Any bookings or changes after this time will need to be made through the office.

Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews are an excellent opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss your child’s progress. Students are required to attend these conferences as they are an integral part of their learning journey and may be sharing and presenting their learning as part of the conference.

Booking early will give you the best chance of times that best suit your family.

Ramadan

Ramadan is a sacred time for Muslims worldwide, marked by fasting from dawn to sunset. Many members of our community will be taking part in Ramadan at this time. If your children are participating in Ramadan and as a consequence are not able to participate in any of our regular curriculum offerings, please contact the office so that we can make reasonable adjustments.

Interschool Sport

On Friday, I attended the YMCA program with the Year 5 and 6 students who were not competing against other schools in teams. Students participated in a range of games including dodgeball, lawn bowls and kickball. They also had time in the gymnastics area, testing out all of the equipment including a sprung floor, trampolines, beams, bars, climbing rope and rings. Much to my group's surprise, I was able to do a handstand and a cartwheel! What a fantastic learning opportunity for our students!

Wishing our Year 5 and 6 campers a great time on their camp this week!
