Student led Conversations

Student - Parent - Teacher 3-Way Conversations: June 2026

At St Carlo’s, we are committed to creating a learning environment where students feel confident, capable and proud of their achievements. An important part of this is giving students the opportunity to take an active role in their learning and to share their progress with the people who support them most.

Our Student led Conversations are a wonderful opportunity for parents, teachers and students to come together in partnership. These conversations have been very successful in previous years, with many parents commenting on how impressed they were by their child’s confidence, reflection and ability to talk about their learning.

When parents, teachers and students work together, we build strong partnerships and ensure that we are all working in the best interests of each child.

Role of the student:

Students will lead the conversation by sharing their chosen learning goals, discussing their progress, celebrating their achievements and identifying next steps for improvement.

Role of the teacher:

The teacher will support the student throughout the conversation and help them explain their learning clearly. Teachers have worked with students to prepare them with the knowledge, language and confidence to lead this discussion.

Role of the parent:

Prior to the Student-Led Conference, we kindly ask that you take some time to read your child’s report and look through the learning samples uploaded to Seesaw.

During the conference, your role is to encourage your child, celebrate their growth and work in partnership with the teacher to support future learning. We want this to be a positive and affirming experience for your child. Your child’s teacher will also be available to provide additional insights and answer any questions you may have.

You may like to use some of the following questions during the conversation:

  • Tell me about your learning.
  • What helped you achieve your goal?
  • How did you feel when you achieved your goal?
  • What made you choose this piece to share with me?
  • What are you most proud of?
  • How can I better support you as a learner at home?
  • What has been the hardest part of your learning? Why?
  • How do you feel about your learning so far in this subject or topic?

It is essential that your child attends the 3 Way Conversation with you, as they are central to the discussion. However, we also understand that there may be times when a private conversation between parents and the teacher is helpful. In these cases, students may be politely asked to step out of the room so that additional information can be shared or further discussion can take place.

If you would like to meet with our specialist subject teachers, please email them directly to arrange a time.

You play such an important role in your child’s education, and your child is looking forward to sharing their learning with you. Thank you for supporting this valuable opportunity and for continuing to work in partnership with us.
