NUDGEE COLLEGE MUSIC PERFORMANCE

“There’s nothing left for me to do but DANCE!” These catchy lyrics by Jamiroquai were absolutely correct last Monday morning with everyone up on their feet dancing!!

 ‍

We were treated to a very special musical performance by the students from St Joseph’s Nudgee College in Boondall. Not only are these students musically talented but they are also great entertainers who displayed a friendly and respectful manner.

We heard pieces from their jazz ensemble, guitar ensemble and rock band #1! Our students were engaged as they participated by selecting a key and tempo for a jazz riff as well as playing truth (heads) or false (tails) to test their music knowledge.

NEW STAFF SHIRTS

CRIME PREVENTION WEEK

Last Thursday all Year 5 and 6 students participated in a very informative and relevant talk with guest speaker Senior Constable Ben Stride from Narrabri Police. The visit was organised by Ms Elodie Labonte from Narrabri Shire Council and coincided with Crime Prevention Week.

The “Think U Know” session focused strongly on laws surrounding social media and gaming as well as stranger danger online. Senior Constable Stride reiterated how important it is to not provide any personal details to strangers online and also talked about how predators ask non-direct questions to gather information. He explained that any images that are uploaded to apps such as Snapchat and Facebook store these images and, as a result, these platforms become the owners of those images.

Did you know that young people are legally not allowed to have access to any social media? For example, the popular game Fortnight is rated M15+ while Grand Theft Auto has a MA18 + rating. These online games also have a chat feature which allows players to talk to each other either with voice or text. Do you know who your child is talking to? Social media platforms including X (formally Twitter), Facebook, Snapchat, Tiktok and Instagram all have a minimum age limit of 13 years of age. These age limits are in place to protect our young people from predators online.

Following the session, the students asked a lot of questions to deepen their understanding of how social media operates as well as the Police Force.

Thank you to Ms Labonte and Mr Frend for organising the session last week as well as Senior Constable Stride for providing this information to our students.
