Mindful Wednesday Mornings
Our school has recently introduced Mindful Wednesday Mornings, and they have quickly become a beloved start to the day for many of our students and families. Each Wednesday morning all the Peer Mediators, along with Michelle and Sam, have been hosting guided meditations in the Drama room from 8:45 am until 8:55am. These sessions offer a calm beginning to the school day, setting a positive tone for learning and personal growth.
We have really enjoyed running one or two guided meditations each Wednesday. Participants can choose to sit/lie down and relax for ten minutes. It makes everyone calm for the start of their day.
Mindful meditation is a practice that encourages people to focus on the present moment. It involves techniques such as deep breathing, visualisation, and guided relaxation to help us centre ourselves and prepare mentally for the day ahead.
Research has shown that mindful meditation has many benefits: helps lower cortisol levels, which can reduce feelings of stress and anxiety increases focus and attention, leading to better academic performance. Learning to manage our emotions more, means we can better handle whatever the day may bring us.
