Principal's Report

Welcome Back
Welcome to all students and staff for the start of Term 4. I trust that everyone had a restful and relaxing break and are all ready for what promises to be a very busy yet exciting time over the next few weeks.
During the break the Year 12 students were involved in practice exams and staff are currently in the process of providing students with their feedback. This is an important part of the exam preparation cycle and students understand the importance of participating in these exams with full commitment and a dedication to do their very best. Of course, the practice exams are only an indication of where each student is at in each of their subjects; however, the outcome does provide the opportunity to every student to identify areas of focus for the revision period and SWAT Vac.
Term 4 will be filled with assessments, celebrations and planning for 2027. A very busy term indeed.
Eltham High School Centenary Fete and Open Day
The last major celebration of the 100th anniversary of Eltham high School is scheduled to take place on this coming Sunday, 11 October between 10:00am and 3:00 pm. This celebration will encompass two amazing events, the Centenary Fete and the Open day.
The program for the day is jam packed with fun.
The formal part of celebration will occur at 1:00 pm in the central courtyard of the school where the official welcome, the singing of the school song and the cutting of the cake will take place.
There will be a number of musical performances taking place throughout the day in various areas of the school. Rides, Alumni displays, memorabilia stand, food trucks, market stalls, art exhibitions and much more are on offer (the program for the day is published on the school website www.elthamhs.vic.edu.au).
As members of our community, you are all invited and please bring your friends. We are looking forward to an amazing community celebration of 100 years of education at Eltham High School.
I also strongly encourage you to support our efforts by engaging in the raffle https://www.raffletix.com.au/elthamhscentenary2026 and the purchase of memorabilia HTTPS://WWW.TRYBOOKING.COM/AU/EVENT/1647957 (links also available on the school website). You can also purchase raffle tickets and items of memorabilia on the day.
I am certain that the day will provide each of us with the opportunity to truly engage in the life of the school. I look forward to seeing you all there.
Centenary Music Concerts
Our two Student Centenary Music Concerts took place at the end of Term 3. They were well attended and our students performed admirably as expected. During the concert on Thursday 17 September, we acknowledged the contribution of 26 Year 12 students who concluded their participation in the program that very night. This often brings a bittersweet feeling. A sense of loss for their departure and alongside a sense of pride and happiness for what these students achieved during their time in the program. The Music Leaders spoke about the impact that their participation in the program had on their lives and on their development as confident, determined and passionate young people. Both concerts highlighted various areas of the program.
Whilst every ensemble performed admirably, I want to congratulate the Strings section of the program for the way that they have shown great development over time. The Junior Strings demonstrated great prowess in their growth from the start of the year and played with great confidence, and both the Chamber Strings and the Strings Orchestra showed an amazing energy and talent in the playing of their pieces. I congratulate, Clare Zabrowarny and Tim Veldman and all the Strings teachers for their hard work in supporting our students to achieve such a high standard as recognised in this year’s Victorian School Music Festival.
Both concerts provided great entertainment and another celebration of our school’s 100th anniversary.
Course selection 2027
A quick update on course selection for 2027. The Year 12 course selection process has now been completed. The Senior School Team is currently finalising Year 11 course selections, while preparations for the Year 10 process are already underway.
Once the Senior School selections have been completed, the Middle School team will begin and complete their course selection process.
All student courses should be published within the next couple of weeks.
While every attempt will be made to accommodate each student's course preferences, it is not always possible to guarantee placement in every selected course. Where this occurs, we will consult with the student to determine the most appropriate alternative that aligns with their interests, strengths, and future goals.
The Victorian Government Schools Agreement
The Victorian Government Schools Agreement is currently sitting with the Fair Work Commission for approval. Once approved it will come into effect from the date of approval. As a school we have been planning our work for 2027 on the new agreement. It has been a challenging task, but we are working our way through it so that we will be ready to implement the new agreement at the start of 2027.
