It has been and incredibly busy, but productive term at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College. I have had the privilege of stepping in as Acting Principal whilst Rod Kendall has been on Long Service Leave for the last 3 weeks. We have had many whole school events and engaging learning opportunities spread throughout the Term. Some highlights for me have been The National Week of Action Against Bullying, R u OK? Day and Olympic Mini Games Day, with our dedicated SRC students leading these whole school events.
Our amazing Wakakirri team performed at the Clocktower on Friday 13th September for the Wakakirri Awards. A massive thankyou to Jennifer Ewart, Shona Mercaldi and Chiara White for their countless hours supporting these talented students. The months of work and rehearsals paid off with our students shining on the big stage! This is the biggest co curricula production for our school and the students from Year 7 right through to Year 12 just love being involved. It was a wonderful night of performances, resulting in our School receiving the Award for the Mental Health Story State Award.
Several members of the Wakakirri team also performed in back-to back events with the State Schools Spectacular, which was on Saturday 13th September at John Cain Arena. Jen Ewart and Emine Alimovska and several other staff members joined representatives from the Principal Team: Neisha Macrae, Kate Blandford and me at the 1pm show and we were so incredibly proud of our students Taya Miller-Dean (Year 11), Ekansh Sharma (Year 12), Taurean Kavakura (Year 12), Adam Alobaidi (Year 12), Amara Chanphongsavath (Year 12).
New Gym
The College community is excited as we are nearing the end of the building project works and the final touches and tweaks are being completed, along with the re-seeding of the oval. During Term 4 the new multi-purpose hall will be handed over to the school. If you drive past in the evening, you will see our illuminated school logo on the new building from the front of our school at Fraser Street.
Indicative Exams
During the first week of the school holidays, our students who are studying Units 3 & 4 VCE subjects will be completing their indicative exams in the gym. Please download the following timetable.
This is an important opportunity for our students, to experience an authentic exam practice that will help to build their confidence and maximise their performance. The results will highlight the content areas they are confident with and, will identify the areas needing a little more work before the final VCAA examinations. We would like to wish all students the best of luck in these indicative exams and thank the Senior School staff who will be coming in on their term break to facilitate this.
