Celebrating Growth, Building for the Future: NAPLAN 2026
We are incredibly proud to share the NAPLAN achievements of our students in 2026. These results represent much more than a set of numbers. They reflect the persistence, effort and determination of our students, together with the expertise, commitment and hard work of our teachers.
This year, 37 of our 41 Year Five students achieved a Strong or Exceeding result in both Numeracy and Writing. This represents 90% of the students in each domain.
Our growth data is equally encouraging. From Year Three to Year Five, our students demonstrated strong growth of +116 points in Grammar and Punctuation, +103 points in Numeracy and +93 points in Spelling. In Numeracy, 100% of students improved or maintained their achievement band, while 92% did so in both Grammar and Punctuation and Spelling. These results are worth celebrating because they demonstrate strong academic growth across multiple areas of learning.
Most importantly, however, these results sit within a much bigger story about teaching and learning at St Andrew’s. Over recent years, we have been deliberately strengthening the consistency and quality of classroom instruction across the school. Our focus is on ensuring that high-quality teaching is not dependent on chance, individual preference or a particular classroom, but is a shared approach across our school.
At the heart of this work is our commitment to Explicit Teaching and the MACS Vision for Instruction. Teachers are using clear modelling, carefully sequenced steps, guided practice, frequent checks for understanding and purposeful feedback to ensure that students know what they are learning, why they are learning it and how to be successful.
We are also making purposeful use of classroom assessment information to identify what students know, where gaps exist and what needs to be taught next. Targeted interventions, including short, focused numeracy groups, allow teachers to respond to specific learning needs and provide students with additional opportunities to practise and consolidate key skills.
In literacy, we continue to strengthen explicit instruction in phonics, reading, spelling, grammar, vocabulary and writing. Our work in vocabulary development helps students move beyond recognising and understanding new vocabulary, to confidently use it themselves. Our approach to writing similarly emphasises the explicit teaching and deliberate practice of the knowledge and skills students need to become successful writers.
Importantly, this work is not simply about preparing students for NAPLAN. NAPLAN provides one useful measure of achievement and growth, but our ambition is much broader. We want every student at St Andrew’s to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed throughout their schooling and beyond.
Our teachers are continuing to learn too. Professional learning, collaborative planning, instructional coaching and our shared instructional practices help us to continually examine the impact of our teaching and identify where we can improve further.
We are proud of our students for the progress they have made. We are proud of our teachers for the expertise, care and determination that underpin this progress, and we are proud of a school culture that recognises that improvement is ongoing.
At St Andrew’s, success is not only about achieving strong results. It is about building a culture where every student is known, challenged and supported to make meaningful progress. It is also about ensuring that every teacher is committed to continually improving the quality of teaching.
