Host Families Still Needed!

St Patrick’s College will be participating in the annual cultural exchange program with Shibuya High School, Japan from Tuesday, 11 March to Sunday, 23 March, 2025. The purpose of the tour is for the students from Shibuya High School to experience a homestay situation, improve their oral English skills and attend a traditional Australian secondary school. The visits also provide an excellent opportunity for our students to learn more about the Japanese culture and language as well as making new friends.

Hosting a Japanese student is a wonderful opportunity. The whole family will learn about the Japanese culture and have the opportunity to teach the student about the Australian way of life. Of course, students of Japanese will also be able to practice their conversation and improve their language skills.

The students from Shibuya High School are in Year 10 and have sound English language skills. In the past they have been extremely enthusiastic visitors and fitted very well into the family environment. They will attend school each day with St Patrick’s students, completing English language classes and doing a wide range of activities with our Japanese classes.

Host families will be paid $600 for the 12 days to assist with the costs of hosting. To further reduce the cost for families, we will be taking the students to the Ballarat Wildlife Park during school time.

If your family is able to assist in hosting a Japanese student for 12 days, please email RLeighton@stpats.vic.edu.au for an application form or complete and return the form below.
