From The Team

 Welcome to Term 4!

Welcome back to Term 4! We hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing break and is feeling refreshed and ready for an exciting final term of the year. It’s been lovely to see the children reconnecting with their buddies and sharing stories about their holidays.

We have lots of exciting experiences already, including the start of our gymnastics program, where the children have the opportunity to develop their coordination, balance and confidence. Our Year 5 students walked to Scoresby West Kindergarten, where they had the opportunity to meet with the kinder children and continue building their leadership and mentoring skills.

We’re looking forward to a wonderful term filled with learning, friendship and fun as we make the most of our final weeks together for the year!

Day For Daniel

On Friday, the 30th of October of 2026 Scoresby Primary School will be recognising the efforts of the Morcombe family to educate students about the importance of being safe at all times.

We are asking all students to wear red (symbolising Daniel’s red shirt, strength, and hope), and there will be a short presentation at assembly on Friday.

On the day, Students will participate in a number of lessons on how to be safe and prior to the event we will discuss why the Morcombe Foundation was launched.

What are we learning in Specialists Term 4

Science

This term in Science, students will focus on the area of Earth and Space Science, by investigating geological processes. We will explore how the natural environment is changed through weathering, erosion and deposition. We will examine the impact of natural disasters such as floods, tsunamis, earthquakes and volcanoes on the natural environment.

Visual Arts

3/4

In Term 4 students will paint a self portrait on a fence paling for a whole school collaborative project. Students will then view and discuss abstract art created by Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Dr Pavel Piskarev before creating a geometric art piece and a neurographic design using loopy lines, shapes and zentangle patterns.

5/6

The focus in Term 4 is threads and textiles. Students will be creating either a dry-felted cushion (year 5) or a Graduation bear (year 6). Year 5 students will be learning how to dry-felt wool tops, sew buttons or sequins and join material using blanket stitch. Students in Year 6 will construct a calico bear and make clothes for their bear using clothes patterns. Students will complete their bear designing extra detail such as jewellery, handheld objects or other accessories.

Physical Education

In Term 4 students will participate in a 4-week Gymnastics clinic run by the Sporting Schools program. Students will also be introduced to a modified version of Lacrosse where they will practise scooping, throwing, catching and cradling a ball using a lacrosse stick. They will continue to develop offensive and defensive tactics as well as fair play, active participation and good sportsmanship.

Cultural Studies

This term, students will investigate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, knowledge and perspectives, exploring connections to Country, traditional place names, languages, stories and seasonal calendars. Students will learn about cultural fire management and Indigenous environmental knowledge while recognising First Nations cultures as diverse, rich and modern.

Performing Arts

In Performing Arts this term, students will extend their rhythm reading and writing skills, developing a deeper understanding of sixteenth-note subdivisions and rhythmic permutations. They will practise recognising, creating and performing increasingly complex rhythmic patterns, applying their skills through practical music-making activities. Students will also prepare a performance item for the Christmas Concert, further developing their performance confidence.

Senior School Activities

Arcade Games

Our Year 5/6 students have been busy designing and constructing their very own arcade games! Throughout this project, students have been developing their creativity, problem-solving, coding and digital technology skills as they bring their ideas to life.

They have also been practising perseverance, collaboration and critical thinking as they test their games, troubleshoot challenges and make improvements along the way.

We are so proud of the effort and imagination students have put into their creations so far and can’t wait to share their finished arcade games with the school community.

Let the games begin!

Westfield Christmas Decoration Competition

Scoresby Primary School has been offered an exciting opportunity to contribute to Westfield Knox’s Christmas Decoration Display! Our school has been given a giant gingerbread man to paint and decorate for the festive season, showcasing our wonderful Scoresby HEART.

On Monday 12 October, the Senior School students got started by sketching their ideas for how to decorate the gingerbread man based on our chosen theme. While we can’t reveal our designs just yet, we’re excited to see our creation come to life and be displayed at Westfield Knox!

We’ll share an update and reveal our finished masterpiece as soon as we can!

Division Athletics

On 16 September 2026, students representing Scoresby Primary School proudly participated in the Division Athletics competition.

Students travelled to the event by car with their parents, carers or Mrs Simons. They were asked to arrive 20 minutes before their scheduled events, although many stayed to support their fellow competitors throughout the day.

A special mention goes to Cecilia for qualifying for Regionals!

Congratulations to all students who qualified for and participated in Division Athletics. Every student gave their best effort and represented our school wonderfully. Well done, everyone!
