Year 7 Girls Cricket
On Tuesday the 14th of October, the Year 7 girls headed to Vic Park to compete in the Eureka Super8s Cricket tournament. We started our first game at 11am against Mount Clear. Tilly, our captain, won the bat flip, making the call to field first. Our fielding was strong, with Nilah stopping a few fours, and Taylah doing some great wicket keeping. Meanwhile, Issy and Chloe worked together to take a wicket. All the girls got around each other, getting us fired up and ready to bat. Eliza opened strong, hitting a four and Ele made nine runs off six balls. Sadly, we went down 3 for 32 to Mt Clear 1 for 46.
In our second game, we came up against Ballarat High School. Tilly once again won the toss, choosing to field again. We got off to a great start, with Eliza’s bowling strength leaving the Ballarat High batter without any runs. This was followed closely by wickets from Ele and Trinity. Tilly finished off the bowling, taking Ballarat High for a middle stump on her first ball.
Next, it was our turn at the crease. Eliza, Chloe and Taylah came out firing, all hitting fours. Chloes made it into the double zone, giving us eight runs from one ball. As a result of our great teamwork, we took the win, 1 for 69 to Ballarat High's 3 for 27.
Well done to all the girls for displaying great sportsmanship, all while having fun and representing Beaufort Secondary College to a high standard. Thank you to Rory for umpiring and Miss Hughes for coaching us.
Year 7/8 Boys Cricket
Last Tuesday, the Year 7 and 8 boys travelled to Victoria Park in Ballarat to play Eureka Division cricket against Ballarat High School and Phoenix College.
Our first game of the day was against Ballarat High. Sam, our Captain, won the toss and sent BHS into bat. Tom, Louis and Daniel kicked us off with 3 good overs, building the scoreboard pressure. Louis’ run out in the third over got the boys up and about. It was then Rhys, Kaylum, Max and Jonah’s turn to bowl. Wickets from Kaylum, Tom and Daniel, combined with good fielding from wicketkeeper Jaxen, allowed us to restrict BHS to 54 runs.
As we headed into bat, we knew we would have to be at our best to chase the runs down and we gave it our best effort. Jonah and Louie’s partnership in the middle of our innings meant the game came down to the wire, with the duo achieving an admirable 32 runs. Unfortunately, we fell just short, scoring 42 runs and losing by 12.
In our second game we played an upcoming Phoenix side. Our reliable skipper, Daniel, won the toss and chose to bat first. Rhys and Jayden got us off to a really solid start, however the late runs from Tom, Daniel and Jaxen contributed significantly to our final total of 38 runs.
As we went in to bowl against Phoenix, we knew we needed to be tight in the field and bowl really well. Early wickets and near misses from Louie, Jayden and Sam allowed us to build the pressure against Phoenix. Ultimately, Phoenix’s experienced batsmen carried them over the line in the latter stages of the game, with Phoenix chasing down our total in the second last over.
As a collective, we all played really well and improved immensely over the two games. We all had a lot of fun and can’t wait to play again next year.
Thank you to Mr Trigg, Tristan and Archie for taking us and helping us out, as well as Miss Hughes and Miss Wigg for organising the day.
