Yr 9 Student Leadership opportunity

The School for Student Leadership (SSL) is a unique residential education experience for potential and aspiring leaders in Year 9. SSL has been run by the Victorian Department of Education and Training for more than 20 years.
This year, four Year 9 students at Gisborne Secondary College will have the opportunity to attend the School for Student Leadership program for 8 weeks in Term 3 at the Snowy River Campus in Marlo. Selected students will live and work in a unique environment with up to 45 of their peers from other regional & metropolitan schools.
SSL is an experiential program, so students are involved in many activities outside the traditional classroom to build their independence, confidence and skills. Curriculum and activities are based around nine key learning concepts: resilience, respectful relationships, identity, empathy, learning strategies, health & wellbeing, emotional management, collaboration & the environment. As part of the program the students will also collectively engage in planning & coordinating a community action project, based on the skills learnt while away.
"The camp changes you, in that it makes you inspired to find who you are and what you are capable of and then you find things you never thought you could possibly do. It’s a life changing experience and you find the amazing people you immerse yourself with and become great friends with them." Kye S, former GSC School Captain
Costs: $900 (or $400 for eligible Health Care Card holders)
At this stage, we are asking for expressions of interest from students and their families. Please email simone.moore@education.vic.gov.au indicating your child’s interest in the program. Students can message on Compass or drop into the Junior School Office to express their interest.
Selection is via a written application and interview process that will take place later this term.
