Congratulations to Year 12 student, Alix Tauru, who was selected by St Kilda Football Club as Pick 10 in Round 1 of the National AFL Draft. Well done Alix, and we wish you all the best in this new and exciting chapter!
Another one!! Congratulations to Year 12 student, Ricky Mentha, who was selected by the Melbourne Demons as an AFL Rookie. Ricky is the first NGA player selected from the Alice Springs Region.

Brooke Hunter was recently announced as our 2024 Dux, with an ATAR of 91.55. Brooke worked hard throughout her schooling and was a top student in the Sports Academy. Brooke has been part of the Basketball Program at the college and also plays for Gippsland Power. Throughout her schooling, Brooke has been dedicated to her studies, her sport and has stayed active in and out of school, prioritising her health and wellbeing. On behalf of the Academy, we would like to pass on our congratulations to Brooke - we are really proud of her results and the person she is.

Nutrition is a high focus area for all Sports Academy athletes. Earlier this year our students met with Danielle Purvis (a Nutritionist from Standout Nutrition) for one-on-one consultations.
Keeping it cool is Sports Academy athlete, Ethan Wildblood, who keeps his nutritious lunch in a freezer bag.
Well done to Year 8 Sports Academy student, Campbell Moncrieff, for being selected to play in the U16 Dowling Shield Squad. Good luck Campbell!
On Thursday the 21st of November, some of our Year 8 boys represented Lowanna College in the Cricket State Finals, finishing in the top 8 of the state, losing to McKinnon Secondary College in the quarter final by 7 runs. Well done boys!
On Friday the 22nd of November, four students - Shaun Brodie, Mitchell Duff, Lochlan Garven, and Nathan Henry, represented the college at the State Tennis Finals. Unfortunately, the boys couldn’t grasp a win, however competed well throughout the whole day. Great job boys!
On Friday the 25th of October, six students - Ricky Mentha, Brodie Atkins, Charlie Stone, Caleb McIntosh, Lucas Carter and Alix Tauru, participated in a speed golf challenge run by Ricky, Lucas and Alix alongside Lowanna Sports Academy Director Allan Chandler and Mindful Aus CEO Matt Runnalls with the aim to raise awareness for mental health. Originally created by former Sports Academy students and current AFL players Bailey Humphrey and Jacob Kostanty, the students aimed to continue their work and raised over $3500 with Allan Chandler winning the tournament after shooting 43 for 9 holes in 25 minutes. Well done everyone!
Well done to Year 7 student Dino Grbic who has been recently selected for the Under 14s Junior Boys National Premier League squad.
Year 8 student Mitchell Hansch has been selected as a train on for the Under 15 squad and Year 9 student, Declan Ryan, has been selected for the U16s JBNPL squad. Well done boys!
Year 8 student Taylah Voumard has successfully made the Gippsland Regional Netball U15s State Titles Team for 2025. Well done Taylah and good luck!
Year 8 Sports Academy student, Oakleigh Noppert, has recently joined the Dandenong City Soccer Club who he competed for in the pre-season cup, winning the tournament after beating Brunswick City 3-0 in the final. Training 4 times a week, Dandenong City is looking to take Oakleigh and his team to Spain in July 2025 to compete against 20 other countries in a big tournament. Good luck Oakleigh!
Recently, Year 8 student Sam Jones competed in the Rookie Cup series in Shepparton, placing 11th out of 92 starters, riding through muddy terrain. Well done, Sam!
LSA Head Soccer Coach, Peter Boyes, has recently been appointed as Head Coach of the Gippsland United Football Club’s Junior Boys National Premier League U17s Squad for 2025. We are so lucky to have an experienced soccer coach supporting our Sports Academy Program and our students. Thank you Peter!
Back in Ireland, Miss Sheridan has recently won the Gaelic Football Grand Final for her Province, Ulster (marked in green), meaning she will now advance to play against the three other Provinces - Leinster, Connacht and Munster, to be the best in Ireland. Good luck Miss Sheridan!
