📚 Indigenous Book Drive – Books for Areyonga School

On Wednesday 2 September, we will celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day at TCPS with an Indigenous Book Drive. This year, we have a very special goal: to collect new and like-new books to send directly to the children of Areyonga School (Utju), a small Indigenous bilingual school in the Northern Territory.

We are inviting our TCPS families to help us build the school library at Areyonga, which has just 39 students. The books we collect will be sent to the school, helping to provide their students with new stories, ideas and opportunities to see themselves and their culture reflected in books.

🎟️ How to enter the raffle:

From Week 8, students can bring a new or like-new book to school each morning. Our House Captains will be at the front gate before school to collect the books and hand out raffle tickets.

• 📖 1 ticket – for each book donated
• 🖤 5 tickets – for a book with an Indigenous perspective
• 🗣️ 10 tickets – for a book written in Pitjantjatjara

And there are some fantastic prizes to be won! We have 7 skateboards to give away, with the aim of awarding one to a student from each year level.

🌏 About Areyonga School:

Areyonga School is located approximately 200km west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. It is a bilingual school, where students learn in both English and Pitjantjatjara.

The traditional name for Areyonga is Utju, in Pitjantjatjara.

We would particularly love to collect books that celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, stories, people and perspectives, as well as books written in Pitjantjatjara.
