Annual Safety Day coming up on Friday 30th October

The OHR Annual Safety Day will be held on Friday 30th of October.  During that week all classes will incorporate safety lessons into their program.  Your child is invited to wear a touch of red, (eg a ribbon, a wrist band, red socks).  It is a timely reminder for our parents to review some of the following:

  • Knows their Safety People Network - the trusted adults they can go to when they need help.
  • Knows how and when to call 000 (not 911) and what information they may be asked to provide.
  • Knows a parent's phone number and home address.
  • Knows your family's safety codeword and understands when it should be used.
  • Knows what to do if they become lost or separated from their family.
  • Understands that they should never get into a car with someone they don't know without permission from their parent or carer.
  • Knows that if something feels unsafe, uncomfortable or wrong, they should move away if possible and tell a trusted adult.
  • Understands that it is always okay to ask for help and keep telling trusted adults until someone listens.

Keeping safe is about being prepared, informed and confident. We encourage families to have these conversations regularly, rather than treating safety as a once-off discussion. Short, everyday conversations and practising what to do can help children feel more confident about keeping themselves safe.
