Mathmatics

Students will continue to develop their understanding of numbers, measurement and space through practical and hands-on activities. They will learn to read, represent, compare and order four-digit numbers, developing a stronger understanding of the value of thousands, hundreds, tens and ones. Students will also continue to develop their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills.
In Measurement, students will measure and compare the length, mass and capacity of everyday objects using appropriate units, and explore fractions such as halves, quarters and eighths. They will develop their understanding of time by reading analogue clocks to the hour, half-hour and quarter-hour, as well as using calendars to identify dates and work out the number of days between events. Students will also explore turns and movement, learning to recognise and describe quarter, half, three-quarter and full turns.
Students will develop their ability to describe where things are and follow directions and pathways. They will use positional language and simple maps or diagrams to locate objects and move from one position to another.
Throughout these learning areas, students will be encouraged to explain their mathematical thinking, solve problems and apply their skills to everyday situations.
