Supporting the Next Generation of Teachers

This week, you may have seen some new faces around the school, as many pre-service teachers are completing placements at WPS. These student teachers are completing classroom placements from Foundation to Year 6.

It is essential to support this next generation of teachers through placements, as they apply the theory they’ve learned at university in 'real' classrooms. This hands-on experience helps them develop teaching strategies, classroom management skills, and confidence. In our professional learning sessions this week, they observed our teachers going through our Writing Moderation processes to ensure that our assessments are consistent and that marking aligns with the Victorian Curriculum's Achievement Standards. Our more experienced 'mentor' teachers support these student teachers. This mentorship provides valuable feedback, guidance, and modelling of best practices that are hard to gain from coursework or theory alone.  WPS will see some of these faces, as many will complete another, more extensive placement later this year.

Updates: School Uniform Policy

You may have seen in the media lately that the Department of Education has mandated uniform changes that all government schools must implement.

The Victorian government schools aim to improve uniform affordability for families. The update requires that school uniforms not include branded pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, leggings or socks from the start of the 2026 school year.

Schools will continue to have branding on school shirts, jumpers, hats, and outerwear.

It is also important to share that students will have another hat option from Term 4 this year. As approved by our school council, WPS is introducing a Bucket Hat as part of our summer uniform.

We are updating our School Dress Code (student uniform policy), which the School Council will approve at a future meeting. We will share it on our school website as soon as it is ratified.

Education Week

This week is Education Week. The photos below are a snapshot of how Education is can look different, but still celebrated around our school.  This year's theme is Celebration of Cultures

Have a great weekend.
