Grade Three

The Grade 3 students have had an exciting start to Term 2! After the school holidays, the students have been engaged with their learning and have produced some outstanding work.
Our first week was all about our excursion to Melbourne Zoo. Prior to the excursion, students researched how humans affect the survival of flora and fauna, specifically focusing on the effect of palm oil production on orangutans and other animals who share their environment.
Our Zoo excursion was amazing! The students kept the Zookeepers on their toes with so many interesting questions. The students moved around the Zoo in their grades and were able to explore much of what the Melbourne Zoo has to offer. If you haven’t already, ask your children what new facts they learnt on the day! Perhaps they’ll be making suggestions to you about what types of chocolate you should buy from now on based on whether they contain responsible palm oil or not!
After the excursion, students created educational posters to teach other children about the dangers of irresponsibly sourced products like Palm Oil.
In English students are focusing on persuasive writing, using our new Zoo knowledge to help fuel their arguments. Students are writing about whether animals should be kept in cages.
In Mathematics, we have started off the term with a focus on Time and Duration. The students are learning more about calendars and clocks, understanding how they function and how we use them in everyday life.
Our Integrated topic continues on from our Zoo excursion, exploring different biomes around the world, learning more about our world in general, exploring how the continents make up our planet and how they differ.
